Well, I've no complaints about the beer quality (although rather pricey): the Westerham Prince of ales was very nice. But for a pub that obviously fancies itself as a bit of a food joint ("will you be eating, sir?" ; and the cutlery already on many of the tables etc), it was a bitter disaapoitment. the 'Ploughmans lunch' came with a soft spongy white baguette which I assume came from one of those cheap Lidl or similar freezer packs: very poor. No butter , but a squirt of marge in a fancy pattern (pretty inedible but went well with the baguette I suppose); and a pretty indifferent piece of cheap n' cheerless cheddar. NOT a good 7 worth...

I came into the Kings and Queen the other day to use the toliet and stopped for quick drink, not a bad pub really, staff are friendly, restuarant clean and tidy and i love the selection of food they have on offer on there menu.

I'm a long distance traveller as i live in Hertfordshire and i dont live in this area, but i came down here by train to visit my girlfriend, i think i will pop into the Kings and Queen, next time i'm over and treat my girlfriend for lunch.

I will be back, see you soon..

Went here a couple of times recently. The staff are very friendly and the pub is clean and tidy. The second visit was in the evening and almost all the tables were in use. The pub is obviously popular as a place to eat out.
Having said that it is clearly not a pub which caters solely for food with just a token beer or two and I was impressed with the selection of real ales.
There were four available, Ringwood Best, Harvey's Sussex Bitter, Westerham Prince of Wales and Bombardier. The Harvey's and the Westerham ales were very good.
I was surprised to find the pub had lost it's place in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide!
If I lived in the area I would definately visit here both for a meal and for a drink of good real ale.

I really like this pub. Nice atmosphere, good staff, good grub and always perfect beer. I would recommend it to anyone, although when it's busy it can be a nightmare to find somewhere to park.

Had a delightful Sunday Lunch here last weekend. Also delighted to see (and drink) a couple of the new brews from the Tonbridge Brewery. Blonde Ambition and Auburn Myth. Both Excellent.

I don't know what Crowmen is on about. Yes, we were asked if we intended to eat, and we said we weren't and that was that. We called in yesterday afternoon and found to my delight one of my favourite tipples, Summer Lightning, which was in perfect condition. The place was immaculate but empty. It was a hot summer's afternoon and everybody was out in the very attractive garden. The staff were smart and friendly and efficient and it's certainly a pub I'd return to.

We came over to try this pub for a change, and happily hit it on Quiz night (2nd Thursday of the month). It was heaving with people, who mostly seemed to be regulars and very friendly. Not sure how busy it is on a normal night but it's got plenty of space.

Good food and beer, we will be back!

Very pretentious establishment.

Staff are far too concerned about whether customers are going to spend lots of money on a la carte meals.. Which to be honest are not worth it. They're not bothered about ham. egg & chips. They're trying to do pub food with fancy names. S

We were basically ignored on Saturday night because we were just having a couple of pints, the staff couldn't be bothered. They seem to be far more concerned about whether you are going to eat, and what you are going to eat, and therefore make them money. Is this a pub or not?

Beer extremely mediocre, not maintained at all well. I wished I hadn't bothered. Again.

Disappointing to make the trip out here, only to find very unremarkable bitter.

Seems that this place is trying to emulate a restuarnt whilst still being a pub. Its a shame. Neither approaches come anywhere near to working.

Poor service, poor beer. I won't be returning.

First visit to this fairly small pub and thought it was excellent. Nice cosy surroundings & 5 draft bitters to choose from. Food seemed popular with many eating. Surprised there wasn't more people in there on a Saturday night.

Pub certainly popular with the locals - food good, Malling prices. Had Harveys Best, Ringwood Best, Sharps Doombar and another on tap all at 3.10. Tried the first two, which were in good enough order. Pleasant interior and garden. Staff were efficient, polite and friendly. All in all a pleasant pub - a safe bet

All valid points in previous postings.
Always a good range of cask ales (normally five) and always well kept.
Good quality food. The down side is price, 3.10 a pint!.

The beer has improved since the last review. Westerham Summer Perle and Sharps Doombar was on. However the prices are close to central London which is a bit disappointing.

Dull beer garden? Hmm. Ernie seems to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder when it comes to pubs in East Malling. Lovely beer garden is the pubs best feature. The beer was however very disappointing, Youngs Special and Black Sheep last time I called in.

This is the pub I take my out of town visitors too; typical English pub with an open fire - but it lacks atmosphere for the regular drinker. It maybe needs an eccentric landlord or a hunched customer in the corner to give it a pulling point. Beer's okay but that's not what all of us go to a pub for nowadays...
..and what is it about those bloody uncomfortable chairs and tiny tables?

friendly staff.
decent pint of harveys.
reasonable if overpriced food.
dull beer garden.
east malling deserves a better overall offering than this and the 'rough' rising sun up the road.
better off carrying on up the road to west malling - the lobster pot and 5 pointed star beat these 2 establishments by a country mile

Its odd; I go in this pub now and again, and really don't dislike it in any way that I can put my finger on - the beer is well-kept (if a bit pricy), the food is quite good - a huge improvement on the almost infinite variety of (presumably) frozen/microwaved meals they used to offer. So that's all positive - and yet for me somehow it just doesn't quite seem to work as a pub. I can't pin it down: the staff are polite and competent, the clientele seem civilized (though they do seem to smoke a lot by modern standards). So - I can't give a totally positive view, but at the same time , I can think of a great many pubs that are a hell of a lot worse.
