Oh how I wish I had read the reviews before visiting this pub !! To be fair the beer was in good condition but otherwise the over priced, unfriendly and out to fleece the tourist comments still apply. Go to the Lister Arms instead.

Some terrible reviews on here! We stayed and the rooms was perfect, along with the breakfast. And a bargain for the price. Had a couple of both types of timothy taylors on the evening and played pool, cards and hit the juke box. Staff helpful and friendly. We didnt eat in the evening but i wold say the menu looked expensive.

Imho a fine pub.

First, the good news: this is not my local. If it was, I'd have frequent flyer miles from the supermarket and be an authority on all things telly.

Now for the bad news...

It's all that a tourist trap is renowned for. Overly expensive beer, served at the wrong temperature, accompanied by overly expensive and distinctly average food. And lord help you, gentlemen, if you need to visit the toilet at the same time as another. You'll need a shoehorn to get in.

All this is, depressingly, to be expected in a tourist area. But what is utterly inexcusable is to be asked to pay the same price for a pint of Coca-Cola (3.60) as for a pint of Taylor's Landlord. That is blatant profiteering and, in an area with no public transport, hardly conducive to promoting sensible attitudes towards a designated driver system. Locals and tourists alike deserve better.

Called in after a walk to Malham cove, 3.15 for a pint of Timothy taylors golden best mild just above freezing, the stench in the toilets made it difficult to breath.
Keep this in mind if you are thinking of ordering a vastly overpriced meal from this place.

Went in early having walked nearly 20 miles to be told that they could not possibly do any extra meals tonight due a big party in the bar next door. Noted a good range of ales so returned later to find them doing food for another group. Hmm. Nice beer but something is lacking to really recommend this pub.

This might well be the worst pub I have ever been in. Last friday having climbed Malham Cove we (4 adults 2 children) decided to have a last night of the holiday meal out and a few drinks.
I would like to express to you all how poor it was but I dont think I have the words. Unhelpful staff, horrible toilets, awful awful awful food - how hard is it to cook chips? to give you a bread roll thats eatable? - flat soft drinks, and those are just the things that spring to mins. Oh and horrendously expensive.
If you are around there and fancy a night out give it a miss, if you live around there I'm sre you already know that.

Expensive and poorly run pub.
We were charged 3.35 for a pint of local (Wensleydale) ale that was slightly 'off', at an under-staffed bar. When we received the bill for a 32-strong group booking in the restaurant area, the landlady told us that we could not have an itemised bill! She also said that she wanted the total in cash, and that nobody should pay by card! [The pub ins in the middle f nowheer: Malham village has no cash machine.]
We had to work out the bill ourselves, and even when we put in cash totalling 60 above the total for the food items, the landlady continued to take umbrage!
The sweets we had couldn't quite decide if they were nouvelle cuisine or not judging by their very small portion sizes, and the 'chips' with the meals were not chips but fries, and they were cooked in something that made them very greasy and soggy, leading to several of us leaving them as uneatable.
The rabbit pie came in one of those dread oval pots used to disguise the absence of meat under a ludicrously fluffy puff pasty (95% air), but I must say that the rabbit meat was plentiful and very tasty, so they did get that right.
This saving grace aside, the shortfalls regarding the meals were made worse with the meal prices being hardly less unreasonable than the beer prices.
Overall, the Buck Inn is an example of a pub that milks tourists and just doesn't care, that could do with someone who knows how to run it. I should think a college in nearby Skipton offers a NVQ course in hospitality/catering, to which the licensees might do well to apply.

The pub consists of two bars: the hikers bar for muddy boots (which was empty and pretty basic and soulless when I went) and the main bar (also empty, but plusher and with an open fire). Teenage bar staff, so not particularly welcoming but efficient enough.
Reasonable range of Yorkshire ales, in decent condition.
Could be OK if there were more customers and more atmosphere. Acceptable for a quick pint but not somewhere to linger.

One of my favorite pubs, worth traveling to at any time. Excellent menu very fairly priced and great food that arrives with quick friendly service. I rarely go for Old Peculiar but here it is very well kept.

Disinterested staff, beer barely drinkable, whisky insultingly expensive (double malt 13, in a chipped glass), they even charged 50p for the printed whisky price list - I kid you not!

A very well run pub with excellent staff. Excellent real ales, restaurant and extensive bar menu which is great value for money. The best Mixed grill anywhere.
