please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Hi I'm the landlord and licencee for this premises. I shall do my best to respond to some of the comments. This is a enterprise inns site so therefore any improvements made are done out of my own pocket. I've been here for 8 years I would love to do a range of cask ales but the prices I am charged by my Pubco means that I would be charging £3/£4 a pint that's why we don't do cask ales. I could say more but the best thing to say is judge for yourself. No more strippers. Still have characters in the pub who all behave ( book and cover come to mind) this is what pubs are about, where blokes come in after work have a pint with friends and generally take the mick out of their friends and landlord , watch some sport listen to some music and even play a game of pool. It's where people learn how to communicate and express themselves good and bad. Something a computer screen can not teach you.
Since the last comment made many improvements have been made to the interior which has been completely updated and is still being done. We are waiting to start work on the outside. We know the outside looks tired and depressing but when you have estimated costs of £25000 to put right it's not something that can be done straight away. Pubs like mine aren't the enemy - supermarkets and Pubcos are , 26 pubs a week are closing.

To those that have commented on this site please pop in and see the changes that have been made. I am certain you will change your views.

This is a pub to AVOID on a Friday night. Full of drunks and blokes looking for trouble. However during the day and on weekday evenings is a reasonably pleasant experience to visit

Girls enter at your peril. Seems to be in competition with The Golden Lion for worst Rochester pub! Bad! Bad! Bad!

What a ripoff dive. Charge you three quid to go into the basement to see 'exotic dancers' then the girls want a pound each . Costs about 12 plus the overpriced beer. Avoid like swine flu

The previous review is spot on! Such a depressing place.

I popped in a few weeks ago to witness one of the most absurd scenes I have ever seen. Two guys playing pool. One of which was an extremely loud obnoxious Scot who offered his opponant the chance to **** his wife if he won. His poor wife looking on aghast! The guy replied "don't worry I won't be doing that" to which the Scot said why not and exploded in a fit of rage. "What is wrong with my wife how dare you offend her!!" Unbelievable. Needless to say the pub errupted into a brawl ending up with the Scot badly beaten outside.

So, if you see a white haired man in Rochester High Street wearing a Celtic shirt keep your distance!

Not a great or attractive looking pub by any means.

I've frequented this place on many occasions and always left a little disappointed. The place is tired and it all feels quite depressing - if you've come here and paying 1 more a pint than the Wetherspoons a few doors down, you expect something more for your money i.e. atmosphere, friendly people and bar staff.

No-one seems to want to be there or ever seems to be enjoying themselves, it's nearly always the same when I go there - a few old moaning codgers sitting at the bar and some young and frequently noisy people playing pool. Standard beer and standard service, nothing really worth mentioning at all.

It has strong competition nearby from better pubs such as The Man of Kent round the corner, Enigma and Wetherspoons etc. but doesn't bother to compete or reinvent itself, it just trundles along in it's own depressing and predicatable way.

Overall, there are far better places to go than this locally, not to bothered with at all unless it has a massive overhaul, which is extremely unlikely.

The Charlotte Bar, what can you say about this piece of Rochester History. On 1st impressions you would not take a second look at this pub, it gives the impression of a standard run of the mill public house.

However do not be fooled by first impressions, this pub has the type of character you would not find in regular pub or an up market wine bar.

Yes the pub has limited beer options, yes 1st impressions may make you think twice about entering for fear of your life, but this is a pub for lads, this is a pub that If Heiniken could build pubs pub.

Not only is there regular live football matches, there is live music, a DJ on a Friday and not that I have visited the basement 1,000 times over the last year, but they have exotic dancing on a Wednesday & Friday.

This is a lads pub, no doubt about it. I have NEVER encountered trouble, felt intimidated or seemed out of place. This is a place of Legends, a place of history, this is the Charlotte

Single room corner pub on the High Street. Has always been a take it as you find it, down to earth sort of place with an edgy feel. Attracts young lads and girls in the evening and old tossers and beggars in the afternoon. Serves one cask ale right at the end of the bar. This used to be a guest, but as you need to go right into the pub to find out what is on, and the place tends to be full of thugs who stare as you enter, and it's practically next door to Wetherpoons, it's not something I have checked on much over the years. Went in today to find the one cask ale was off. Fosters, Carling, Strongbow, Stella and Courage Best on offer at the kegs. Has been refurbished recently and now has the name "Charlotte's Bar" on the windows. The "refurbishment" seems to have consisted of wiping the place over with a dirty rag and getting Murphy in to knock down a wall in two minutes, no problem. This has now created enough space for a pool table and some leather sofas for the lads to sprawl in.

Uninspiring and expensive. But suits some folk.
