Duke of Norfolk, Brightonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
the pub has a great atmosphere and a good selection of beers. had a sunday roast there on 4/Nov/07, meat tasted a bit dry, very thin gravy, very soft and overcooked vegetables (which are great if you've got bad tooth!). Overall, great place for drinks, but not for food.

This is not a bad place for a beer or two as it has a decent selection of draught beers, but the food leaves a lot to be desired...a 40-minute wait for two burgers on a tuesday afternoon is really not good enough. And when the "home-made" burgers eventually arrive, they are no bigger than the ones i dish up for my 5-year old and her mates!!! But not as tasty. Six or seven quid a go??? Dreadful, needs sorting out...

Nice Pub. Feels cosy in winter and has benches outside on western road in the summertime. It's obvious that the decor is not original, but it's nice enough and much better than many other larger chains who try to emulate the "Traditional Pub" look. Drank the Guinness and it was fine. Would recommend!

Nice enough place, excellent open mic night on Tuesday.

Part of the local Zel chain it looks like an improvement on the previous Polar Bar. Themed as a 'Real Pub' but the refit is only skin deep. My mate ordered a couple of pints of Bomadier, they were off and stunk of vinegar. Barman refused to change them saying 'you'll probably only complain about the Directors'. As is usual with Zel bars, lots of money and effort spent on decoration but no staff training. Avoid.

Nice little pub this one and it even has a non smoking section. Avoid at at weekeneds as gets busy with london types and young couples with lille Johnny in their 3 wheel wheel buggies.
|
friendly atmosphere, book-lined walls and games to play while waiting for the mouth-watering food.

Until recently was Polar West - now run by Angus and Wendy, a very friendly couple who put in a lot of effort. Appeals to a varied group of people and is well run, welcoming and all round nice to be in. Large book shelves on both sides, newspapers available free. Food served daily (I'm going to try my first Sunday Roast tomorrow!), one side of the pub non-smoking until 8pm. Quiz nights every Wednesday from 8.30, regular promotions. Open til 1am during the week, not sure about weekend. All in all a very enjoyable place to visit. Recommended.
