user reviews of the Plough Inn at Ford, Ford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went here for a meal on a Tuesday evening for my Mother in law's birthday. Place was about a third full. We had been before so decided to go again. Pub is divided into two parts, a smallish bar area for drinking and a larger restaurant area for diners.

This is a horsey pub. Not horsey because it has brasses on the wall and pictures of disproportionately fat 18th century horses. It's horsey because Jonjo O'Neill's yard is opposite. the Nigel Twiston-Davies operation is nearby and quite a number of other stables are in the area. The drinking area is therefore full of stable lads and lasses, apprentice jockeys, etc. This does give it a bit of atmosphere.
The restaurant is interesting in that on the night we visited there was no specials board. If it's on the menu you can have it. This makes one suspicious that the food is either not made on site or made earlier and just re-heated. Having said that, the lamb and duck were both very good, although my wife found the chicken and ham pie tasteless and insipid.

Beer is Donnington's which, as mentioned below, is nothing special. Surely this brewery can come up with something with more va-va-voom than their BB or SBA.

So in summary, not quite as good as in previous visits, but would be happy to return to try it again.

A pleasant place with polite efficient staff. The food, though slightly expensive for a pub, was very good.My pint of Donningtons was ok but nothing special. This is a place well worth a visit.I would advise either arrive early or make a booking

Top rural location and beer garden. Good split between dining and drinking area. Staff have been fine on the few visits I've made here, I'm not a fan of Donnington beers but that doesn't put me off visiting this pub for the place itself. Food was excellent (game casserole) when I tried it.

Barman was friendly, pub is a real gem that should get more attention, beer was OK(the beer's fault not the pubs in this case), and you must visit Snowshill !

Were going to eat here but was full. Quick pint of Donnington SBA which was very nice. Will visit and try to eat again but I recommend booking!

Agree a bit spoilt. Lovely views. Excellant food. The Donnington Ales are superb. Worth it for the beer. As long as you can see through the staff this place is a close to perfection as you can find. A worthy bet for a spell in the top 40.

Nice pub spoilt by surly & ignorant staff who rip you off with the classic change for a fiver regardless of the note you have given them. Bit of a tourist trap and they seem to take advantage of this. Watch out! A real shame..

I have been visiting this pub for the last 6 years, for a meal and meet up with friends just after Christmas. It's a 70 mile trip to the pub.I come from Bedfordshire and the others from just outside Bristol, well worth the trip. We were there last Sunday.
Many thanks to the staff, we had a great time and great food. And I am a fussy type.

Oh dear! Walked here from the Cotswold Farm Park one Sunday lunchtime. The nibbles were expensive but the Donningtons SBA reasonably priced - so reasonable I had more than I intended and had to crawl back to the Farm Park.
Definately worth a visit.

Dark, panelled interiors and a garden with play area. Donningtons beer so a cheap pint but the food is upmarket and pricey for a pub. On a main road. Famous for its asparagus meals in the Spring. Open all day every day for food.

Fell in love with the place on the first visit - gorgeous ploughmans - no really! Went back for the ploughmans again and got a totally different meal - one slice of white bread cut in two, minus the gorgeous pickle and different cheese so disappointed on second visit, but nonetheless definitely one of the really nice pubs of the Cotswolds.
