Closed 2012 and converted to residential. Shame on PubCo.

The proprietors are super friendly and helpful! The beer's terrific. The food we had was excellent - great burgers! We were told by a local that the pizza was the best thing on the menu, so we will have to go back and try it. :)

We also loved that the pub was not "tarted-up", a frequent complaint I have when nice locals are stripped and made to look corporate and not cosy or at least friendly. This is a lovely local friendly happy, easy-going place with good beer & food - worth a return trip, or many.

My friend and five kids were visiting the local park when hunger struck! We had a wander hoping to find a nice pub and found a winner. Dave and Karen (and Jake the uber friendly and immensely cute cocker spaniel) greeted us with genuine warmth, which isn't always the case with five young (7 and under) kids in tow! We had a fabulous lunch, with generous portions and the kids ate it all. The unusually titled 'sparrow' pizza beat me (but it really should be shared - in my defense), was really tasty and freshly prepared as was the other food we enjoyed. We will definitely be coming back, firstly I'll be back with my other half without the kids though. Highly recommend this pub and the very warm welcome they give you :-)

We was recommended by one of my clients to try this pub as it now has been taken over, I was a little worried that it would still be just a drinkers pub, but it was lovely. We were made very welcome and Dave & Karen looked after us well. We will certainly return and soon. We hope the village will support this little pub well.

New landlords to The White Lion Dave and Karen have created a really welcoming family pub in the village. Great place for a pint and a quick bite to eat - try the Tribute - it's ace. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.

The White Lion has just been taken over by new land lord and land lady, new menu, very nice people, foods very good, all home made looks like a new pub a very warm welcome.

Been here twice recently - both times in the middle of a weekday afternoon. What a bonus to find a village pub open all day! TT Golden Best on top form both times. A typical small village local with a range of OK priced food, judging by the chalk boards. Chatty landlord which is always a good sign.
I suspect that this is the 'working man's' local, with The Red Lion, just up the road, catering for the more affluent punter.

Walked up to Steeple Aston on a lovely summers evening from Heyford Station, all in a great Friday night mood, unfortunately this was nearly knocked out of us here. On entering there was an overwhelming fishy smell, then it took quite a while to get anyone to the bar. The only beer on, on the night, was Timothy Taylor Golden Best, which was in ok nick. Tried talking to the Landlord but he was having non of it, he seemed a little tired and emotional. There were some people eating, spread through the Pub and Garden and these were the main focus for the evening, they seemed a little rushed. The garden is lovely.

Pleasant enough village local about 15 minutes walk from Heyford station. Two unusual points which set this pub apart are the fact it is open all day every day (rare to find a rural local open at 4pm on a Monday anywhere) and that it sells an eminently drinkable pint of Taylor's Landlord. A good pint of Landlord outside of Keighley is pretty rare but this place manages it, so it ISN'T an impossibility.

Friendly local -- especially compared to the other ostentatious pub in the village. Good food, good beer, welcoming atmosphere and a management team who are pleased to see new faces. Home of the ambitious Steeple Aston football club.

I entered this pub for 2 reasons,
1. To deliver the Thomson local book
2. to borrow the toilet
I thought to myself what a lovely cosy pub and what nice clean wasroom facilities, so far so good 10/10
I asked a question about the area and went on my way remembering to say thank-you for the use of the toilet
I then went to the car to load up my bag with books and carried on with my work. On returning to the car that was parked opposite the pub the landlord appeared and from the middle of the road accused me of stealing his toilet paper i told him that i had not taken his toilet paper but he was having none of it and insisted it was me.
this has upset me as i have never been accused of stealing anything in the past (least of all toilet paper) and just want to let him know that I cannot get this out of my head.

The family & I have eaten Sunday lunch twice now in as many months. The roasts are excellent, the real ale is kept well & the friendly local atmosphere is great.
Well worth a visit

Had a nice pint of beer (Timothy Taylors Landlord) which was wonderful following a dissapointing visit to the Rock of Gibralter! Roaring log fire helped with the warm welcome we were given on our arrival!

The food was excellent and had clearly been cooked by the chef (not bought in). The Sunday lunch - Yorkshire pud, veg, roast spuds, beef - all perfect for a reasonable price, was everything a pub lunch should be. The landlord was relaxed, efficient and charming. The garden was fine until it got too cold and then the indoors was equally pleasant even with a tv showing the cricket and football. Not a smartened up pub, but a drinking place with good food and service.

Fairly small, one-room pub with a village focus; pool table, etc. Serves well-kept London Pride and Speckled Hen. Food also good: new owners intend to develop the restaurant side of the business.

Recently been taken over - is now non-smoking throughout, which is superb!! Excellent food, too, and Sky Sports
