if you have three hours to have a pub meal then go here. we were there on a saturday night with a booked table. it took 45 minutes to get a starter and we received our meain meal 15 minutes before our taxi came at 10.30. we had been there since 7.55pm. dont bother booking! you wont be served any different if you had walked off the street. no one gets priority. a lot of the vegeatbles were deep fried eg. duchess potato - not very nice deep fried!!!

Admittedly I prefer pubs that aren't what I call "tarted up", that is they retain a pub-like feel, neighbourhood friendly and not too matchy-matchy. This is not one of those, happily. It retains a cosy feel and serves a good choice of beers, and an excellent choice of food!

We were very happy with our meal, large portions (almost too large!) and friendly service. Also noted they have a long vegetarian menu, so would highly recommend to veggies. Enjoyed the beers we tried too. And always happy to be served by such friendly staff!

Best Pub for Miles - - being a Bletchtonian I guess you can say I'm biased but when 13 people from Kirtlington ( nanny landers!) come to spend Lamb Ale at the Blacks head says a lot not in 34 years did I think that would happen!

For a non biased view visit in Oxford website review by Richard Rosser.

Any Service, Price & food Quality issues.... same as for the Jacket potato - - why come and moan about it on here? when you could have resolved the situation on the day.

Is it me? or a coincidence that so many negative comments about my local come just as a refurbished pub not too far from Bletchingdon has reopened?

Worst food I have eaten out for over 3 years. Starter had mould on bread. Salad was like cheap school food with old iceberg lettuce. The scallops came in a soggy mush with rice and garlic bread. The steak came with a pepper sauce that was so peppery it made you sneeze and cough. Both of us felt quite nauseous after the meal. I haven't complained about food out for years so this isn't a regular occurrence. It would be forgiveable if they weren't charging expensive gastropub prices. The meal cost around sixty quid for two and really wasn't worth half that. Avoid.

We had a meal in The Blacks Head last Sunday 28th June 2009. I would not recommend this pub for food. The service was very slow despite the pub being virtually empty, when the meal finally arrived it seemed as if it had been re heated from lunchtime and was barely edible. The problem was mentioned to staff and all they could say was sorry. The last straw was being over charged. So overall very expensive and terrible meal.

I was at The Blacks Head Inn on the 24 June and can only comment on how well they coped with a load of amateur painters turning up unannounced. I assume with the time your comments register you were one of them. How do you expect one person to deal with 12-15 people who have not booked. If your jacket potato was cold send it back!!!! This is my local pub and they bend over backwards to please people, even to the point of returning money to one of your crowd when they received what they asked for and then decided they didn't like salmon on a seafood salad!!! This pub has excellent food, beer and atmosphere.

Arrived in pub 12:17 - served beer at 12:33. Food ordered 12:43 - arrived 13:15. Service appalling. How can anyone get a jacket potato with tuna filling wrong? This pub can - by not heating the centre of the pre cooked potato and serving it as it came out of the chiller. My advice is to avoid if at all possible.

Very nice pub. Huge portions of good food. 4 real ales on. And Stella. And very friendly staff and locals. Even some toys to keep the kids amused. Dogs welcome. A great find.
