It looks like this pub has had its fair few problems with transient landlords and managers in the past. And, although I can only comment from our one visit to utilise it for an evening food and beer stop on the way home after seeing the mighty Saracens trounce Leicester on their patch, the current staff team seem to be making a decent crack at running a good pub. The welcome and service we received were top notch , being treated more like locals rather than transient passers by. And the efforts of both the bar staff and the chef who paid close attention to those ordering from the reasonable traditional pub menu could not be faulted.
I will certainly be utilising it again when travelling south down the A1 through Bedfordshire.
Only personal downside was that it's a Green King house, so only the usual suspects of IPA, Abbott and OSH on. But we tried the IPA and OSH and both were in good condition.

Enjoyed a very nice Sunday Roast today - everyone seemed very friendly and attentive and the Bouncy Castle in the garden is a winner with the kids - great find!

i've lived in sandy for most of my life. i've seen the kings arms go through many many changes and many many management teams.
i returned to the kings arms just as the current birmingham team had taken over. i was pleased to see that they were taking the pub forward, the food was good, the beer was great, the atmosphere was amazing. the place looked great. however things didnt feel right or nice in there within a few months. there were stories of confrontational landlords, financial difficulties and internal politics. then out of the blue their manager ups and leaves (stories of him being attacked by the landlord - although the "official" word was he had familiy commitments). one of the worst things to happen to the pub. the manager was personal, socialble and was possibly the only one who knew what he was doing and enjoyed doing it.
who am i to get involved - a loyal customer thats who. i can say that this pub now has regained its charm, the food is great but dont expect a loyal welcome. its quite clear that we go there to line the pockets of the landlord who makes no attempt to hide this fact. the pub and landlord has lost several key customers due to confrontation and i am now thinking of joining them

I took an unplanned detour in to The Kings Arms in Sandy to be pleasantly welcomed by the relatively new Landlord and others who assist him in his new venture. The pub has a good day time menu but also a very flexible personable chef who was willing to alter the dish I chose. I took advantage of checking out the Xmas menu/ party nights and can feel a party coming on with my friends taking up the opportunity of using the onsite accommodation so we wouldnt have to worry about who drives. The locals were very chatty and many had stories to tell but warmly welcomed a stranger. The pub has undergone I was told many management changes but the welcome I received from all will ensure I return with friends to share the atmosphere again. Good luck.

Yet another change of landlords, this time from Birmingham area, understand it is their first time of running a pub, but they have an experienced pub manager who was not around at the time

Had a pint of Abbot Ale, not too bad, but tastes different to the Abbot in the Queens Arms, not sure why....

Asked for a pint of snakebite, got a smug reply that it is illegal to serve it, not actually illegal but some people like to hide behind this fact :(
Decided that would sooner drink in the Queen's or the William Peel and left :)
Had I been told that they do not want to server snakebite until they knew me better or some other excuse, all well and good and would have had a few more beers.

Might give them a go next month when the food is up and running and see how it goes

If this pub has improved God only knows how bad it must have been in the past. Terrible pub.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. Received a very warm welcome and some tasty food. The new management have really cleaned up the place and we may even make it our local!

Went to the pub a few months back for a late petanque match, made quite a difference to know that the old landlord had taken his dogs and the pitch was not being used as a dog toilet for a change :)
Have to admit was impressed with the snacks at the end of the match, much improved over the old version that had tried once and never again.
Understand there was a LOT of work done on the pub, due to previous tenants.
Beer tasted pretty good, nice choice. Not drink lager much and so can't comment much on that

This Pub used to be really busy a few years ago but has been going down hill stedily since. Visited a couple of saturdays (9pm) ago and there was 8 or so people in the whole place. Id also question the hygine of the place due to the smell of dirty dogs that lingers around the bars.

Nice quiet little place, beers kept well just a bit out the way (tucked round back streets)
