Went back to Victoria park where I grew up to see the England v Italy game (World Cup) on my way home from work. After Getting a doombar £3.95 and ordered chicken crochets and chips (£9.95). The place looks very warm and friendly and a young crowd of trendy middle class's (I guess?) make up the clientele. In fact the Italians outnumbered the English who seemed only mildly interested in the football (well they must be middle class then). I had two pints in all, so that's £8, the meal was a was an absolute rip off £10 for 3 chicken crochets and ordinary oven chips which I demolished in about 1 minute. The thing Is, kinda new it was going to be crap just looking at the menu, half of it was crossed off and it al sounded poncy anyway. But I had the munchies and just wanted to settle down to the game.
It was a nice environment, but expensive and I would never eat here. I think there was only two genuine East Enders in the whole pub other than myself. Not that I am against the new money moving in. I quite like seeing young smart and happy people wherever I go. There are still plenty of real estdnders about, but they ain't coming in this pub. I would guess they are priced out. I think it is pretty much the same all around hackney now.

Gastropub certainly, but rather harshly reviewed methinks. Busy on a Sunday afternoon as expected, but no problem to find a perch for just a (well kept Purity UBU) pint. Good looking place.

What a p*ss-take, something like 6 for a vodka, possibly with no mixer, even. From a barmaid who didn't know basic manners, and it wasn't due to her native English... Oh, the price could have been due to the music festival in the park next door, which is reprehensible given the prices in London already, but anyway, I'll be b*ggered if I'm paying to be looked-down upon by someone who I'm giving a better example to. Here's a tip, landlords - instead of employing people who are abjectly rude and incompetent generally, employ people for customer service roles who are GOOD at customer service - there's plenty of those on the dole happy to work at the above minimum wage rates the staff MUST get for those prices... (right?)

Upmarket pub opposite Victoria Park. Had a very enjoyable couple of hours in here, but probably only because we managed to bag a couple of seats at the bar, where I was able to enjoy some lovely Redemption brewery beer. Another couple of ales were on too. Had we not got those stalls, though, I probably would have been disappointed. Much of the rest of the pub was turned over to high-priced table-service food, so there is little of a pub atmosphere and not much room for people seeking to just have a few beers.

I selected The Crown for Sunday lunch since it was mentioned in a CAMRA guide. My wife phoned ahead and asked if they had a "veggie roast". They said it wasn't a problem and we reserved a table for six people.
When we arrived in the pub, I was disappointed to find that there were no ales available on the handle, and the staff were too busy to attend to what I would consider the prime purpose of a pub.
Five of our group were vegetarian and we all ordered the veggie roast. We were pretty surprised to find it was just sunday roast, but minus the meat and gravy. A plate of cabbage, potato, carrots and a yorkshire pud.
The landlady seemed to think that this protein free meal was acceptable, where five hungry people did not.
In her defence, we weren't charged for the food, but this place is trying to sell itself as a gastropub and we left having had neither food or beer.
This place needs to up its game or just own up to being another crap pub and stop pretending.

Mark one London gastro pub, serving one local beer and the ubiquitous Doombar and Broadside. Nothing bad to say about it but nothing to make it stand out either. The food might be brilliant for all I know, but I didn't try it. Minor detail, but chalking up the same tired old quotes about alcohol, drinking and pubs just adds to the rather tired uniform of these places and really irritates me for some reason!

hell hole pub, very overpriced, boring dull middle class clientel. It's the sort of place where people from Hampshire come to congratulate one another about how rebelious they are living in a 'vibrant, multicultural area' then talk about art, crap etc. only good thing is the staff are helpful especially the lady with the enormous laught!

Good location, but interior is trying too hard. Feels over done - over poncey. But then this area is like that.

Good pint though, and food is actually rather nice. Bar staff also very friendly - no problems there.

So quite a good pub, but I can think of at least 4 other pubs within walking distance that I prefer. (Royal Inn being the obvious).

Completly agree with buzzard1's comments. Since my last post 4 days ago I've been twice. The pint I had - Sharps's Doom Bar (London Pride and Adnams also on tap) - was great, but then it shold be. As far as the interior is concerned I find it a little cosier than before, they have even gone so far as to create a snug complete with fire and book shelves. As my near neighbour says a very promising start.

Now reopened, it is not a typical boozer for the area (think gastro in E3) but probably the most reflective pub of the changing area in this part of the smoke. I was impressed. Can't comment on the freshness of the beer as it is has just reopened, but it has taken a punt that the typical drinker will stay for a session if the atmosphere, beer and food are good and it seems this place has come out of the blocks strongly. Great view of the park but not the most accessible being a hike even for the most determined of drinkers, but the staff were very polite and the interior is well thought out. I like the fact the dining rooms upstairs are separate although I didn't sample the food. Attracts a young probably professional crowd mixed with the curious from the neighbourhood, and I hope it keeps up its promising start.

Great news! The gawdily coloured tapas thing has gone and The Crown is rising phoenix like from the ashes. As it's my local and the opening night is tonight. I find out just how good it now is.

Went past here yesterday - had hoped to eat but it looks to be closed.

The Fat Cat Cafe Bar nearby is OK - Archers beers but not very inspiring. Food OK but nothing much better than you'd get from M&S....

Mar I Terra is the name of this "pub". It appears to be being refurbished...

Disaster. This beautiful pub with great food and beer has been bought up by a tapas chain restaurant, and they have painted it bright blue and orange. What a crying shame...

Walking along the Regents Canal we had a lunch break here. Large one room pub with few guestes at this time of the day. Excellent organic food and vegetarian friendly ale from The Pitfield Brewery. The St Peters Organic Best Bitter was not on at our visit.

Lovely organic pub on the south side of Victoria Park. Food excellent and the St Peters Ale is the best pint I've yet found in the east end. A little on the pricey side but I guess that's an "organic tax". I find it very hard indeed to pass this pub without stopping in for a swift jar or three.
