Six of us had an excellent roundtable lunch at the Royal Lyon. Friendly, attentive service with a nice warm (if occasionally smokey) fire in the background. Good choice of ales and several excellent, well presented main courses at a midweek price of £8.95. Puddings a bit dear at around £5 but again high quality, eg crunchy apple crumble with a personal jug of custard, sticky toffee pudding with ice cream etc. Easy parking and handy for Henley/Marlow visits. We shall return to this well run and welcoming pub.

A charming, quintessentially English Pub. The Lyon has successfully broken through the clouds of a chequered past and has gained a deserved reputation for quality and warmth - rare in this day of 'chain pubs' so we thought we'd check it out. When we visited the fires were lit in the grates and the welcome was warm and friendly from the whole team, with attentive service.
Squashy leather sofas and nibbles made it an ideal place to meet for a drink, and the winelist and real ales are both chosen and kept with care.
A seasonal and varied menu, classically cooked and carefully presented, the portions were perfectly judged with emphasis clearly placed on high quality ingredients. The slight downside is the pub is not really within walking distance of the local village, but it's a great destination, with ample parking and a really lovely garden. The other thing that must get a mention is that the whole pub is reassuringly clean and well kept...vital!!

Iíve known this pub for years and only went the once when it was a Vintage Inn (and a bad one at that).
Now it is a true independent and it shows. Its interior has been restored to showcase original features including roaring fires. The garden is still quite new, (apparently the produce is used in the kitchen), but is cleverly divided up to give secluded tables or more public ones.
The food follows the seasons and is sourced independent suppliers. It hasnít disappointed yet. At just over £10 the Sunday roast is exceptional value Ė pink beef, crispy Yorkshire and proper stock pot gravy.
Wines varied and are well priced and the draught beers come from just down the road.
Clearly the pub has gone back to the good old days. Hence I guess reverting to the old spelling of the name Red Lyon, as it would have been known centuries past.

Really disappointed with this pub. It looks really nice from the outside and the garden is lovely. However the food was a rip off. I ordered a ploughmans £9.95, when it came there were two small pieces of bread, two small pieces of cheese a bit of salad, couple of onions. I spoke to the waitress asking if that was the usual portion as I felt that for £9.95 the portions of cheese were really small and I mean small. Another member of staff came to our table and we said we thought that for the money one small miniscule piece of brie was a bit of a joke. They really weren't interested and offered us nothing really. I won't be going there again as not only did I think it was a rip off, the staff were not interested in customer service at all. I would not recommend this pub at all!!

Moronic misspelling of name - why not call it Red Lion as it was known as for decades. Looking at the photo more of a restaurant than a pub.

A pub with a varied past but an excellent future! Under new ownership since July 09, great food, great beers and a warm atmosphere. Please note the ONLY number to call on is 01628 823558, quite a few websites have not updated the number which changed about four years ago!! Well worth a visit!
