please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Also reading the other reviews i notice that alot is said about car break-ins, well there are cameras everywhere now and no break ins for at least 2 years!

This pub has been through the mill in the past but it has come up in the world in recent weeks, the food is great, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere cosy. If you want a quaint country pub then this is it!

My car was also broken into - had a lot of stuff nicked.
The pub has a history of it and is regularly targeted, but they do nothing in the way of CCTV or warnings for unsuspecting visitors. The carpark backs onto unlit fields and the police dont even bother coming out any longer to calls - they never catch anyone.
Oddly enough, I was only inside the pub for 20 mins, and the thieves managed to target just my car out of the 10 or so in the carpark. Bad luck for me, and exceptional luck for the regular weeknight drinkers. Read from that what you will.
Avoid.

The food and service are OK but don't leave any valuables in your car! The atmosphere, particularly as the evening wears on, is not that comfortable.

This used to be such a good pub, excellent food for about £9/head max. We went there on Sunday (22nd Oct 2006) and they're under new management, it was a disaster.
The pub is usually full on a Sunday lunchtime but it was fairly empty when we arrived at about 12:30pm which should have made me wonder.
We found the menu had changed, everything was more expensive and the traditional meals such as fish and chips and ham eggs and chips were missing. So we ordered 'roast beef with all the trimmings'.
When it arrived it was very rare and bloody which for thin sliced Sunday roast is not to most people's taste. Instead of a normal sized serving of roast vegetables we had 4 small roast potatoes and 4 even smaller boiled potatoes between 2 of us, a few bits of carrot and masses of cabbage.
We sent the meat back to be properly cooked, when it was replaced mine was ok but my girlfriend's was still undercooked except round the edges.
We were so disgusted with the food and disappointed with the experience that we gave them a few pounds for our drinks and walked out.
It's rare for me to slate a venue in public butI really advise people to think twice before going there unless the above is your idea of a good Sunday lunch.
Having lived in Burchetts Green for 25 years I have seen the pub improve steadily over the years and it became one of the best pubs around for lunch over the last few years but after the last experience I will nver go back until the management sort it out.
perhaps they will come across this post and take note!

Nice fake surroundings which look pubby but the atmosphere is all but. Far too food orientated for comfort, we stopped for a break when passing that way and were asked three times in the 20 minutes it takes to drink a pint and use the loo what we wanted to order. Breakspears sadly pulled through a sparkler. Better than a Vintage Inn so two points.

Great pub with excellent food at very reasonable prices. Polite, well trained staff, who unobtrusively offer excellent service. Large car park and lots of nooks, crannies and great booths inside.
