user reviews of the Dolphin, Wellington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Dead, boring and only one ale on.

I expected more as it is in the good beer guide.

3/10

A somewhat quirky pub, but cosy and comfortable. Good beers, both choice and quality, and knowledgeable staff. A nice place to spend an evening drinking.
Don't be put off by the wacky exterior, it's a fine pub.

Also a fantastic beer garden at the back from which I recently took advantage of the strange phenomena known as "summer".

Great pub with great potential; good selection of local ales, friendly bar staff and clientele make this a close rival to the Cottage for best pub in Wellington.

Food was good, slightly delayed by the local CAMRA rep paying a visit. Otter Amber through a sparkler was a new one on me. Place needs some heating other than an open fire at one end of the room.

Don't be put off by the outside looking like a rough boozer, it isnt. Three ales on, Otter as mentioned, Butcombe and one from Brains.

Staff very friendly, also close to the rugby ground, deserves to do well, as they say a work in progress.

Recently held my fathers wake at this pub. The licensees & staff are great people to deal with. Good food & great service from a traditional country pub is hard to find these days, but here it is at the Dolphin Inn, Wellington. 10/10 & I recommend you giving them a whirl.

Judge.

Under new management, The Dolphin Pub offers a friendly and welcoming environment, serving food until 9pm every day.

Children and dogs welcome, lovely beer garden for sunny afternoons or a hearty open fire for chilly evenings.

As a work in progress, all ideas are welcome!

What a transformation! The new owners have worked wonders - very friendly, good beer, good food, good atmosphere. it now feels fresh, welcoming and a place to relax. Children and dog friendly, big garden and for a good laugh I recommend the alternative pub quiz on a Monday evening.

Pub now (11-08-2012) now re-opened with new owners developing family friendly atmosphere with huge beer garden and exciting food menu starting 13-08-2012. Good luck to you certainly off to a good start. Lets all support the landladies efforts to create an independent pub.

A "Man's" pub, sport everywhere, a friendly atmosphere and some good ale but dont take the kids!

good pub, the hand-dryer in the toilets was brass (or was it rusty?) - excellent.

Visited during the weekly pool tournament!
Have no doubts, this place is not in a hurry to secombe to the lure of theme pubs and modern, trendy bars; this place is a bit of a time warp. However, with that stepping back in time comes some things you dont often find like friendly staff (who'll know what you want by your 2nd round) and locals who are welcoming.
Also token bloke with a mullet there to see!
If possible, avoid the toilets, they really are from another age. 'Functional' is the best description!
