Brilliant pub for a visit with kids - the play areas are really good, with food of good value for all the family.
Service was friendly, the beer just right. Not exactly 'Gordon Ramsay' but for the price, a very good deal.

Will be bringing the kids here again, as it is so easy to enjoy a decent pint while they tire themselves in the garden before dinner! The wine list is good too!

I had an identical experience to my esteemed colleague in booze, Jonnysaint.

That's not to say it's always this way, on a previous visit the inhabitants were charming.

Dropped into the Horse and Groom a couple of Saturdays ago. Unfortunately, for us, there was a football match on the TV so the place was packed. We attempted to make our way to the bar, but were poked and prodded by the local neanderthals with pool cues. "Oi, mate. You're in theway".
Apparently we were blocking their view of the TV. Here I was thinking a public house was a place to be social, not sit around watching TV. Anyway, unable to see the ale on offer because of the rude clientele hogging the bar we thought 'stuff this' and left. We headed to the far superior Kingston Arms down the road. At least your get treated with respect there.

All I can say is book a table. Turned up on a Sunday lunch at about 12.45 only to find 2/3 rds of the tables with reserved signs on them. A couple reserved for 1.30, yep that's two tables out of action for 90 mins on a busy sunday lunch. 7 of us left without even a drink and went to The Chequers.

Visited this pub after recommendation, went with family and friends for lunch, had a great carvery and superb bar meals and the specials board was fab. Kids spent all lunch outside playing crazy golf and knackering themselves on the giant bouncy castle. This was great as we managed to down a few!! Staff, pub really nice, will certainly go back soon.

Had Sunday lunch there yesterday, nice enough looking pub and ambience. The Guinness was just OK which was surprising as it seemed a number of people were drinking it. Biggest disappointment was the 'carvery'. 7 for two of the thinnest slices of beef imaginable, I did question it but was told that "everyone gets the same". To be fair I did keep my eye on other people and they did seem to keep the miserly rations constant. I tried to get my money back by piling on the veg but nowhere near 7 worth! Shame as it seemed an OK pub.

Went for lunch. Nice pub but awful food. The mushroom soup was so thick - it was all cream. They got my order wrong as I asked for chips rather than new pots but I got new pots. Had fishcakes which were adequate. The separate plate of season veg and new pots were microwaved within an inch of their lives - you got get a carrot and squash it in your fingers and it just dented.. the potatoes had exploded through microwaving - very disappointing - will not be returning. The bar staff were friendly and the waiter, when I mentioned I had asked for chips, insinuated I hadnt!!!

Finally went back to this pub. The food was superb, service was excellent. Has a big beer garden along with a big children's play area. It is well worth visiting if you happen to be in the area. It's a real gem of a pub hidden away in the middle of nowehere on the Iow.

Now very food and family orientated, and is owned by the same people who own the New Inn down the road in Shalfleet. Found the food to be very reasonable and varied. Well worth a visit. Totally non-smoking, but large amount of seating outside.

still not open, don't know what's going, used to serve great food here, would sit in the beer garden all day in the summer.
