Second visit having given up on the Horseshoes. Good food, good service, nice garden to sit in. What's not to like?

Spent many pleasant trips to this pub, last Summer, after walking my dog on the nearby heathland. It has a good sized garden and welcomes well behaved dogs. The landlord is always welcoming and serves a decent pint of London Pride.
Slightly off the main road where it's nearest neighbour The Four Horseshoes does an un-justifiable roaring trade, The Red Lion is now starting to be discovered, they do a great honest Sunday lunch of simply Beef, Lamb or Chicken but booking is suggested.
A little gem, smart, clean and tidy.

I have been visiting the Red Lion occasionally for 5 years now. The pub went through a series of landlords and, to be honest, was going downhill very quickly. However a new landlord & lady have arrived and have quickly restored it back to a really nice welcoming country inn. The food is a very good pub-grub and is reasonable priced (esp. stakes on Thursday and Sunday roast). Beer is well kept. Well worth a visit. Has accommodation … but I have never stayed there so cannot comment. JM

Out of the way pub, a little bit austere inside, not a "cozy pub" type place but nice enough. Quite a fair bit of room and a large garden for the Summer. St.Austell Tribute & London Pride on both in excellent condition, food also very good and not too pricey.

I'm Irish and we Irish have earned a certain reputation .....so I feel that it qualifies me to rate 'embibing emporiums'. I first visited the Red Lion last March and visit as often as possible. The Pub is really nice, the staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is fresh and fab. I have recommended the Red Lion to all my friends, drop in and meet the Landlord John, experience the hospitality first hand, you won't be disappointed. Oh BTW they have the best Pinot Grigio Rose in London! Actually it is tooo nice.

Well what can I say living in Woking doesn't really lend itself to a nice traditional friendly english pub as a local but I have to say only 3 miles away I discovered two months ago a proper little gem. Since then I have entertained my clients and staff with great music, theme nights and food from the Red lion. They have great and extremely friendly staff that go the extra mile to insure you are happy and satisfied. Superb food (sunday roast) and a great pint, you can easily see the landlord takes pride in his ale. Will recommend to all my friends coming over for Ascot to stop in for a great pint and proper home cooked fresh food.

Oh and a proper quite beer garden. No noise from passing traffic! The kids were made feel welcome to play in the well maintained gardens

SPOT ON! Keep it up Guys!

We popped in yesterday following the other reviews on this site. We were massively disappointed. The real ale was cloudy, young, dreadful and left unfinished. Bar maid miserable and unkempt and children's play area smelt of urine. Didn't dare try the food so went to the nearby The Grove to eat and that was excellent. (Separate review). We will not be returning to the Red Lion.

We visited The Red Lion yesterday evening for a family meal , we found the pub warm and friendly , the staff and landlord very welcoming.
The food was well presented and the portions were adequate for the children and ourselves.

The children were made to feel very welcome

There is a good range of beers , spirits and wines to choose from.

We will be revisiting The Red Lion both for food and also to sample what has been described as a 'lively' pub on a Friday evening with local bands performing .

We've tried lots of pubs in the area looking for a good place for sunday lunches. I have to say that this was only OK - and certainly not the best sunday lunch I've had in a pub recently. The veggies were over cooked but it is nice to have them on the side. My stuffing was straight out of the packet and it was quite dry as a result. The meat was also overcooked and drowning it in gravy isn't going to help. The roast pork also didn't have any crackling - criminal! That said, the yorkshire pudding was good and the roasties were VERY good. I've had far worse - but from the other reviews I was expecting something a lot better.

The beer was very good, however, with the London Pride tasting very fresh and seemed superbly kept. I'm happy to recommend this place for the beer but the food wasn't anything special.

The Red Lion is one of those rare finds, great food reasonable priced. Friendly staff and great locals. The London Pride is some of the best I've ever sampled and just me I've tried a few pints in my time. Highly recommend and looking forward to my next visit - Paul B.

We recently found the Red Lion by accident while driving through Chobhan one Sunday. We wanted to stop for Sunday lunch and we could not have been more lucky with our find. The quality of the lunch was first class and that was matched with the very friendly and attentive service. We very rarely recommendations on venues but the Red Lion deservers the praise. well done !

Suprisingly empty when we went in there last Saturday night at around 8pm although the 6 locals in there certainly made up for that on the noise they were able to produce. Nice pint of London Pride which was well kept in what is a comfortable smart pub. To be honest if I lived over the road I might be having a couple in there joining in the loud banter too.

Went in here for a pint and lunch today. Nice pub. Comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. Hobgoblin and London Pride available amongst the beer selections. The cheeseburger was massive! Long time since I left part of a burger. Will gladly come back in when walking in this area. Well equipped and maintained garden. Oh, and dogs allowed in on the wooden flooring! Overall very good. Prices what you would expect in our part of the world for proper food and well kept beer.

Pub is wicked - great food and great live bands - check out Rhedd especially, playign there 8th and 24th August. Been refurbished and new landlord and landlady are lovely. Relaxed surrounding, good garden area too and adequate parking.

Good value b&b and restaurant in this traditional pub frequented mainly by locals.
