I visited this pub after staying in a local B&B on a business meeting; I was quite surprised that you had to pay an entrance fee to get into this pub in such a sleepy quiet town. I thought I'd give it a go.
I stayed for a while since I had to pay to have a drink, and the place did get quite busy, although it must have been just locals who had nowhere else to go at 11. The atmosphere completely changed and I felt very uncomfortable with the rowdy locals. Not long after I witnessed two fights. I left soon after.
I'm not sure what this place is like during the day, the menu does look nice, although didn’t get to try anything, would definitely not recommend going here for a quiet drink though.

This Bar has recently changed hands (early August 08) and has been refurbished from top to bottom. Now called Duke's, it offers good food, beer, music, service and atmosphere. I have been going regularly since it re-opened, especially on the weekends and in my opinion is exactly what the area has been waiting for. Well worth checking out!

Visited the new 'Duke's' last night and can't say I was impressed. Music is a bit too loud to hold a conversation, bar staff don't seem to really know what they are doing or where anything is and the decor is a bit much. Was served a horrible flat pint of Pride. Maybe just teething problems...

All I can say is...WOW!! This place HAS to be seen! Its amazing! Big leather chairs, widescreen tv's and funky music make this place somehwere which I will be using a lot of now.

This re-opens on Friday 1 August as "Dukes", sign an side of pub advertising now for staff.

Sorry but my previous post was absolute crap. Enterprise Inns have applied for planning permission to re-develop the Welly. They want to have a smoking area out the front with decking and an awning. Good luck to them. Lets hope they get the go ahead and make something of this place

CLOSED FOR GOOD

Perhaps this is now someones home, and is open to his 'freinds' as it always seems dark in the bar area, and when I once dared to try the front door it was locked, this was in the evening, a Thursday.

This is next to a police station, so expect it to have the boys in blue as customers. It does seem isolated, and I suspect that if it was not for the police, this pub would be out of business.
