This is a traditional pub in a very pleasant spot alongside the river that has somehow managed to resist the temptation to turn itself in to a tourist magnet and has instead retained much of it's character. The only concession to tourists seems to be an old dresser just inside the door with an extensive selection of picked vegetables and preserves for sale!

The main bar area has an old flagstone floor, black beams on the ceiling and much exposed stonework on the wall, including the backdrop to the small corner bar counter. An old fire-place off to the left housed a wood burning stove, although the plasma stuck up above it looked a little out of place. Another fire-place at the rear had piles of logs alongside, old soda fountains on a shelf up above and various other earthenware vessels around. Both fireplaces had comfy old armchairs in front of them which must be a pleasant spot on a cold winter's evening. To the right was a smaller room with a tiled floor, pool table, darts board and quiz machine.

There are a couple of patio areas outside along by the river, and these are a pleasant spot to sit and watch the boats go past and the old rope drawn ferry where the pilot has to pull the boat across by stretching his arms up to the suspended rope. It all looked a bit hard work to me, and I worked up quite a thirst just watching.

Beers on tap were Butty Bach and Hop, Skip & Jump. Ciders were Ferryman's Cider, Stowford Press and Ross-on-Wye Farmhouse cider.

We had a great time here, including an overnight stay in the bunk house. Jamie and the gang looked after us very well. The food is above average, I can recomend the YOFI burger, and the deserts are pretty good too. Try making it across the ferry rope for free beer. Pool table tucked away in it's own room, costs 50p a game. Beer is nicely conditioned, and local: Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach. Lager is Peroni, Vier, and 'Paul Weller'. View is stunning, I can't fault this place. Mark

Great pub, very sympathetically and stylishly refitted. Well-kept ale, unusually good range of wines and spirits and a great food menu. Sounds like there are big plans for this place - can't wait to see the outside areas in the summer. Well worth a visit.

The Ferrie serves decent beer but it is still very run down & does not seem to do much business. When we visited the Saracen's Head across the river was doing great business whislt the Ferrie was almost deserted.

I tried to visit this pub three times recently, but it was closed each time. On Monday we found it was "closed all day". On Tuesday we turned up and someone told us "we shut at nine o'clock" (looks at watch, five past eight) " oh no, eight". On Wednesday, before opening, we checked the listed opening times (12-11); someone came out to help, and they asked in the pub what time they would close that night - nine (it seems there's another, smaller, list of times). Half past seven saw them locked and lights out. Make of that what you will. Zero marks, for telling fairy stories to thirsty customers.

Visited here friday night and vowed never to return. As well as being rundown and dirty the food is dreadful and the service a complete joke. Had to ask three seperate people whether a menu item was vegetarian and the faggots I was served were uncooked and disgusting. Half cooked chips and waitresses who didnt have a clue added to what was a truly unpleasant experience. Also the table behind us were delighted when the waitress with the massive boobs hanging out of her top came to clean their table and leaned right over only to be told by them that she had missed a bit so that the blokes could have another letch at her cleavage. I thought I had stepped into a carry on film style timewarp! If you ask for salt and vinegar be prepared for the waitress to come over and throw the sachets onto your table with such style...
We complained to the manager who couldnt even be bothered to defend the place and let us off the bill without putting up any fight or standing his corner. Obviously knows his pub is terrible. All in all the place is like a timewarp and is a waste of such a beautiful location. Ramsay would have a field day with this place!!
