user reviews of Sel's, Surbiton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I remember Sels from back in 2006 as I knew the guys who DJ'd there on the weekend so used to drop in for a few San Miguels.

My lasting memory is that the few punters who were in there were coked and beaned up to the eyeballs.

I once noticed a couple of guys sneak into the cubicle together and were spotted by one of the Turks who followed them in. I was expecting them to then be very roughly evicted however, all he said to them was that it was ok to snort lines in there as long as they didn't both go in there at the same time.

They basically knew that if they didn't let their customers openly take class A's then they wouldn't get a single customer.

All in all this place was a bit of a giggle while it lasted however, unsurprisingly and for the best that it has been consigned to the history books!

This place has now closed down, and become an Italian restaurant. Another Italian restaurant is probably the last thing Surbiton needs, as there are at least 5 in the central area, and another 3 or 4 on the Ewell Road.

Either way, even an empty shop would be a better addition to the town centre than Sel's, so it is good news!

I was in here on Friday night. The DJ was top drawer playing funky house, he had the place rocking!

Run by strange men who tried to entice me and a guy friend to bring 'lots of girls' to the bar when it first opened. Corky's was better and even that wasn't that good.

Popped in for a pint and didn't seem too terrible, maybe not as comfortable as Corky's but then that place always seemed like it should be a bar on the Costa Del Sol.

There's a good DJ on this Friday who I've seen at various local places (such as the Blue Room, Molesey) who is always playing good tunes, however don't be mislead, this place is for the younger generation.

By far the most chilled out and classy bar in Surbiton. A mix of friendly locals, students and older professionals makes this by far my favourite bar in Surbiton. At the weekend Sel provides a live DJ playing mostly funky house but also a mix of R n B and mainstream music. Prices are average and the interior mixes classy modern chic with cosy local. Sel is the landlord - look for the snazzy dressed guy with the pony tail!

Dear, oh dear, oh dear !!!

What a disaster.

Seems to have two customers, and they seem to wet themselves drunk after 10.30

4.50 for a bottle of Peroni?!?! Get real.

Bring back Corky's I say. Anything's better than this place.
