Called for a drink and meal yesterday, a gastro pub with a very clinical looking interior, not what could be called cozy. Food ok but expensive as is to be expected in a gastro. A soda and lime was £2.25, the other day in the Hare and Hounds at Sidbury it was 65p and in a Norfolk pub when on holiday it was £1.

OK so finally went last night.

It's a gastropub/restaurant as much as anything, but the bar is equipped with some very nice sofas.

Well equipped bar had a couple of beers I've never heard of one (sure one was a bespoke beer with the pub's name) but I was on the lovely Stoford Press Cider. Also a strong flat cider I've not seen before on draught.

Food was fairly safe gastro pub fare off the main menu - IMHO too expensive for what it was.

However, the lunch menu at £9.99 for two courses looked pretty inviting - I'll go back and try that.

Recently re-opened looking more gastro from the outside, haven't been in.

N.B. also renamed the Gamekeeper.

Currently closed, claiming to be an available business opportunity according to the poster in the window, but has now been stripped of anything that made it look like a pub.

went to this pub the other day food was really nice , great atmosphere ,staff were friendly and welcoming, the German Sheppard was playful and child friendly , the customers were friendly and bubbly. when the other user commented about the youths , where else are they meant to go out and smoke? the smoking area is out the front of the pub.

we are going to go back soon as we enjoyed ourselves and the pub is worth a visit if your near

On arrival I was met by a group of yoofs and a large German Shepherd dog gathered around the entrance smoking and looking unhospitable, but I have to say that first impressions, on this occasion, were unfounded. Inside was pleasant, and the barmaid was friendly and polite. I had an excellent pint of Piddle, washed down with a similar amount of Palmers. There were teenagers being loud around the pool table, but it wasn't anything untoward and I didn't feel in any way uncomfortable despite being the oldest person in there by at least 2 decades.

It's a pity the last few posters' experiences weren't as positive as mine, but I note that they are all single posters who made their comments on the same day and wonder whether, given the implied nature of the occasion of their visit, how objective they've been. I note in particular that Mrjslater had all of 28 minutes to read the previous post before changing his mind about coming here. Looking back a year from that date, I see that James55Westhead, someone who has reviewed a reasonable number of pubs, had a much more positive experience.

For what it's worth,I'm happy to go back next time I'm passing because it's a normal village pub with no frills that sells decent beer.

I agree with everyone below! the staff have no Customer Service Skills whatsoever!! they were really rude to me!! a big no no for this pub!

Fact: My Grandfather (who recently suffered a tragic loss), my mother (who recently suffered a tragic loss) and my Aunt (who recently suffered a tragic loss) all entered this establishment yesterday (Sunday 19th July 2009).

Fact: The staff decided to serve my Grandfather in a degrading and appalling manner, which is a show of disgraceful customer service levels as well as a shocking no existent amount of respect to a PAYING customer.

Fact: When an explaination from my mother was offered to the staff who served them, the customer service and customer respect fell to unfortunatly lower levels.

Opinion: I don't think that anyone should even consider using their services ever, unless they have no self respect, or if they do not plan to actually pay for their meal.

Fact: I will NEVER visit this establiment EVER.

Fact: I will NEVER let anyone I know eat at this esablishment EVER.

My friend told me that their staff were extremely rude! there first greeting at this pub was "what do you want?" and it sounded as if was effort to serve my friend. so give this pub a miss everyone! i was recommend to The Coach and Horses at Winterborne Abbas so gonna go there instead.

I went to this pub yesterday with my Dad and Sister. This is the second time I have been dissapointed in this pub. After the meal I stayed behind to tell the staff my feelings. The waitress threw her eyes up to heaven (I have not seen that technique in the customer service handbook at our work place before). I then spoke to the Manager / Owner? who ptretty much had the same attitude.

We were not passing trade (which presuambly they must rely heavily on with their attitude) but part of a large local family.

The Coach and Horses at Winterborne Abbas is totally the opposite. Its carvery is generous, the staff friendly. Any one looking for Dorset warm welcome do to Winterborne Abbas and dont bother setting foot in Inn of four seasons.

Lovelly, to find this pub by accident after a day out in Dorchester. The four of us went inside,to a warm friendly greeting and atmosphere,we opted to dine right away.the meals were very good and plentiful and service too match. And the local brew washed everthing down a treat.Coming from north somerset,i have now decided to make this my port of call, each time i visit Dorchester..

This little pub with an excellent car park is on route from Dorchester to th Cerne Abbas Giant. It proved to be a most enjoyable visit. The garden is beyond a very good restaurant area and finishes on the banks of the Cerne river. Good local draught beers - and I found the locals and staff most friendly. Childrens play area and pet friendly. The carvery was being prepared for the evening and I left for home in the late afternoon regretting that I would not be available to enjoy it. Next time I shall make sure I am. It was a well worth while visit
