Further to Mr Gerbils post regarding the new chef "mr lek" have you wondered why he left the previously very busy office for the dead dyke tavern? The Office kitchen franchisee had their kitchen shut down due to being unfit to serve the public. Think about that next time you are tucking into your masaman curry mr Gerbils.

This is a big cavernous pub, which is badly in need of a major refurbishment. It is outside of central Brighton and has a large catchment area, but is never busy.
There are two good, well kept pool tables and you can play darts and watch sport on decent TV's. However, the beer- Harvey's and Spitfire, were both terrible on my last visit and the toilets were rank. They were so smelly, the smell wafted well into the drinking area.
Not worth a visit at the moment - it may change. But my guess is that this will be a block of flats within a few years.

A new Thai chef, Mr Lek (formerly of The Office) has started at the Dyke Tavernand his food really does make the place worth a visit.
Try his excellent Masaman Curry or his Pad Thai - really yummy.
He serves until about 9pm. Jst ask for Mr Lek and he'll come out and chat. Nice to have a real Thai cooking real Thai.

Scruffy and dull. Brighton has so much more to offer than this

Bit plastic and featureless. Although it's not a 'bar' and still retains some features of a proper old boozer, it somehow lacks the atmosphere of smaller and more characterful venues.

Big pub but desperately needs a full makeover.

Good tradional pub with lovely patio garden. Big screen tv to watch your favourite team, while drinking an excellent pint.
