I've been getting in here a bit more recently and I find the locals to be pretty friendly. The beer is always in good nick although the selection is a bit unimaginative. The best thing about this pub (in winter anyway) is that it has two real fires, one in the main bar and another in the snug, which gets, well...snug. Decent ale and a warm fire on a cold day, what more could you want?

Good sized pub located right at the Ashton Court end of the village. Its surprisingly spacious inside with a couple of bar areas and a separate Parlour Bar more geared up for diners. Its got a reasonably country pub feel to it with a low beamed ceiling and a generally fairly cosy ambience.

Theres a courtyard garden out the back with an interesting clock/weather vane. Theres also some birds (swallows maybe?) roosting in the old stable block so theyre continually flying in and out. Staff seemed pleasant and friendly. We didnt see the menu so cant comment on the food, although the blackboard out the front advertising a lunchtime special of a burger and a pint for 8 didnt strike me as an especially enticing offer. The outside toilets are a little rustic, shall we say.

Beers on this occasion were Bass, Butcombe, Courage Best and Spitfire. Ciders were Blackthorn and Thatchers Gold.

Good choice of beers and cider. The food is okay, but nothing to rave about. Staff were not unwelcoming, but they weren't particularly friendly, either. Clientele when we were there was local, retirement age, and seemed to like to keep to themselves. The pub is of some historic interest, but I did not feel comfortable or welcome enough to take the time to have a good look around.

Went in yesterday, good choice of beers on and friendley bar staff. I had a nice pint of Courage Best which was in excellent condition. Nice outside courtyard which is a bit of a sun trap. Very clean toilets.
