A traditional pub in the centre of this small village, it consists of two bars plus a restaurant area at the rear and a good sized garden. On a recent visit, the car park contained both an old tractor in immaculate condition, and some type of armoured vehicle complete with turret and rocket launchers!

The lounge area is to the left and is an L-shaped room with the usual generic red patterned carpet on the floor and cream paintwork on the walls as well as a low, beamed ceiling, although for some reason the ceiling between the beams had been painted orange which seemed a little odd. A very large, stone fire-place was to one side, and it looks as though logs would be blazing away in the colder weather. The stone built bar counter was inset with some beer barrel ends and there were a number of water colours on the wall depicting country landscapes. A stone pillar was in the middle of the room.

The bar area was to the right and had a few lively locals in, although we did not investigate this. To the rear was a restaurant area overlooking the extensive garden. A river runs alongside the garden, although it is at a considerably lower level and so is not really visible. There was also a sports pitch of some sort beyond this.

Beers on tap were St. Austell’s Trelawny, Butcombe and Bass. Ciders were Ashton Press, Ashton Still and Thatcher’s Dry.

Great pub - pop in here several times a year, making the journey for it especially. Food decent (if pricey), lovely internals, wonderful beer garden if the weather is clement, but the best bit is the beer. Usually four ales on - Bass, Butcombe, Otter +1, as I recall - and always spot on. Friendly service - just what a pub should be.

A good welcome to this Pub albeit children not allowed in the Bar areas,Dining and beer Garden only. A country pub in it's true state no loud blaring music and widescreens to deafen you. A true rural idyll. My otter ale was in good form and the sunday lunches looked a real treat. Another one to try for food later on. Had a good friendly chat with one of the locals and, the place was heaving with food hungry crowd as I left.

Another reasonable country pub which seemed popular with locals and walkers. There's a prominent power station nearby that I later heard has been decomissioned. Ales on were none too inspiring - Bass, Butcombe Bitter & Otter Bitter. The real cider was Ashton Still. Average pub which was fairly quiet late on a Sunday afternoon.

The worst family pub in Britain. As a member of the armed forces i somtimes wonder what we are protecting. Not a family pub, kids not allowed

If you have children and you just want a quick drink and a packet of crisps give this one a miss!! We were asked to leave the pub altogether or go and sit in the garden (in February!)when they found out we had a child with us! Not exactly child friendly as advertised!!

Resting on its laurels a bit, in my opinion.

A classic in it's own right!

A bit too foody for my liking but that aside it's a great pub, beer is always excellent as is the food. Lovely gardens for summer drinking too. The only pub I know of in Gloucestershire that serves Theakstons Old Peculiar 365 days of the year too.

lovely setting, restaurant nicely decorated. Good, knowledgable staff.
Excellent food, freshly cooked, so can take a while.
Highly recommend it.
