user reviews of the Emma Hamilton, Wimbledon Chase

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Turn the clock back ten years and you have the only pub in the Greater London area that staged league bar billiards. Sad when this was discontinued.

i used to run this shit hole, get all the scum that used to drink in there back in for a farewell drink, lock the doors and set fire to it.

I'm amazed that the rating for this place was ever above 3!
There have been many negative things written about this place and its former clientele, and not one word appears to be an exageration.

Your dream is coming true McDonalds are looking at this site so it might get bulldozed to the ground but I can't promise the chavs wont be back
chaz1379 - 6 Nov 2010 23:53
Fully agree with mattlondonssw20, this place was a chav infested shit-hole!!
No doubt they will find somewhere local to ruin!
Surreyblueboy - 5 Sep 2010 12:41
THIS HORRIFIC PUB IS NOW CLOSED!!! YIPEEEEEEE!!!

Ahhhh how I'll miss the sight of the chav locals popping over the road to the off licence to by cans of Stella to top up their pints. And how I'll miss the sound of breaking glass & 14yr old mum's-to-be screaming obscenities at someone trying to kick their boyfriends head in.

Thank god this place has FINALLY gone. Bulldoze it to the ground & build some flats.. a much better use of the land.

I am truly amazed that some folk have commented on this site that it was a 'lovely family pub'. I think these people should have their heads examined without further delay!.
mattlondonsw20 - 14 Aug 2010 15:50
You will be pleased to know this place is closing down on August 16th - Punch Taverns have sold it :-D

Oh dear God no.

This place is worse than any you have visited, trust me.

I was riding past on a bike when a wobbly 40 something stopped about 50 yards ahead of me giving the 'evil eye', i slowed right down and moved into the other lane on the carriageway as i passed, only to be greeted with outstretched arms and " you nearly F****ing ran me over you C*** come on, i'll F***ing kill you" before duely walking off into the EH for a nice pint and philosophical chat with his chums.

This was at 5pm on a sunday.

And yeah, there were baby chavs in the play area.

Classy!

THE worst pub in the area. Always, full of aggressive have characters. I live very close by and ambulance's and Police cars are regular visitors to this pub. Whenever I pass, there are scum bags shouting abuse at each other and passer bys, making noise with their cars or smashing glass.

I've lived here for 15 years and it's always been the same. I can't understand why the council hasn't closed it down.

Occasionally, when a local gangster dies, they will have the wake here..

It's not a funny place.
jameswimbledon - 21 Nov 2009 18:51
Looking at the most recent comments it would seem that this place has not changed much in the last few years - glad I didn't pop in, as thought about, when I was back in the area a month or so ago
brighton_toffee - 20 Jul 2009 03:33
Stayed in the area this week for a few days & as we drove past, it looked nice from outside, play area at side, seating at rear and front. Grand -- till ya go inside !!! The bargirl was rude, the place smelt of urine -- opted for a botte of beer, wasn't taking the chance of drinking out of a glass. The customers looked a bit rough around the edges, so we didn't even finish our drinks and legged it out of there. Not for the faint of heart !!
TrishaC - 4 Apr 2009 18:17
The only people who like this pub are the scum that drink/intimidate in here, and the Old Bill who regulary raid it and bump up their overtime!
Steer clear!
Surreyblueboy - 12 Dec 2007 10:43
This pub is pretty rank. I've been in my fair share over the years and this is one you'd go to only if you lived right nearby. It's just not enjoyable to go there, the atmos and the people and the beer all leave something to be desired. Just spend your hard earned cash somewhere else if you have the chance. Just not a nice pub at all.
marcbolanboy - 29 Jan 2007 22:48
wot a fantastic pub, cant believe its still here after all these years. regulars and new customers are always looked after. there is always a friendly enviroment, maybe a few dodgy looking people but looks can be decieving, generally a great pub for all the family and friends to enjoy. one problem beer should be cheaper
leggett84 - 12 Dec 2006 09:12
Horrible pub. Seriously nasty. Full of scary looking skinhead scum.

Sat on a sofa for a bit and noticed a flea land on my arm. Nice
dembo - 25 Jun 2006 23:08
I think that the clientele in a pub is highly important as it creates not only the atmosphere but also the character.

In this instance, the Emma Hamilton is probably one of the worst pubs I've every been into. Loud music coupled with intimidating locals who give of the impression they want a fight, unpleasant interior and unfriendly staff really don't help it.

It gets a mark for having ale on though.
AleKing - 2 Jun 2006 13:08
this pub's food is dreadful! went there for steak n chips n it was the worst meal I have had in some time. The price was ok but should have gone down the road to leather bottle as its about 20x better!

Your comments seem to reflect socialist observations on the class of punter, and not of the class of the pub.

We are interested in the beer and the service, nothing else - please keep your personal observations of others to yourself!!

oh my god... this is horrible chav infested dump with absolutely nothing going for it whatsoever. Seriously, i'd rather never have a drink again than go there!. An unfriendly looking bunch of regular chav's will be sitting A) outside with no tops on if in the summer - or - B) inside the door wearing a range of baseball caps, pretend burberry wear or indeed any other type of clothing available from JJB Sports. One thing that is very noticable is the amount of poor, innocent children that are forced to spend their time in this place because the parents think is prefectly ok to have them running around, breathing in the warm sticky fag smoke filled air whilst they sit there and get slowy drunk on alcopops and get through another 20 Sovereign's. Some of these poos kids are still in school uniform! This place is definately to be avoioded - knock it down and build some flats on the site. This way, the scumbag clientele will have to resort to drinking in pubs in places like mitcham which frankly, is far enough away for me not to care and more more up thier street anyway.

Spent many good nights in this bar but has gone down hill..However, the best thing to happen in recent times is ex bar staff member Glenn proposing to customer Claire - they are due to get married on 6 August in Brizza! CONGRATULATIONS!!! d xx
anonymous - 19 Jul 2005 13:11
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Who was it who said you should never go home? Where this place is concerned, that person was right. Sadly disappointed.
toffee_exile - 2 May 2005 08:39
Ah, fond memories. Worked here in the mid-90's (Steve and Mel were managers when I joined). Had a lot of good times - Johnny 5 Nations still drinking there, by any chance? - but also remember the horrendous Euro 96 "debacle" when the function room was trashed. Left during Sue and Jim's tenure (last I heard of them, they were running a pub near Clapham Junction). Rating based on what it was like then rather than what might have happened to it since.
toffee_exile - 11 Mar 2005 15:00
Been going to this pub for years. People are down to earth and easy going. Occasionally the odd nutter causes a few problems. This is definitely a working class pub so if you don't like swearing and loud drunken people I suggest you try Wimbledon Village.
Crazy_Ange - 2 Mar 2005 11:34
Chav infested unfriendly place.

Bar Staff are ok, beer ok and general decor ok,
but very much a locals pub, unfortunately most of the locals are chavs.

Grab a bus along to the white hart instead.
Venom - 2 Jan 2005 23:17
the pub is brill the staff are brill the manager is the best so down to earth hes a love they made you feel at home from the min you walk in
laura fenton - 8 May 2004 19:41
Friendly clients, certainly not the cheeriest bar staff in the world - I felt like I insulted them when I ordered my Sunday lunch!
Martin Way - 17 Mar 2004 14:53
Pub nearest my house, but certainly not my local. Large roadhouse, pool tables, tvs. Customers a bit rough but never seen or heard of trouble. Staff quality has varied over time - but regulars seem to get preference. Currently has an extremely long menu, but I've never seen anyone eating here, so I always wonder about the turnover. I can't see why anyone would go out of their way to visit this place.
Martin - 10 Mar 2004 12:45
There is a function hall at the back and plenty of parking. Catering very good.

I have just come across this site. I haven't been in this pub since 1965. In those days, it was rune by an Irishman of much charm called Dick and a quintessentially glorious Irish Barmaid known as Marie Green. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Marie, I'd be pleased to hear about them.

Does anyone know where Sue and Jim are now? They ran the pub for a while about 2 or 3 years ago! (irish couple)!
Andy C - 27 May 2003 12:37
The emma hamilton was re-decorated in May 2002, and now boasts 3 brand new pool tables, dart board, fruit machines, big screen tv, comprehensive menu, kids menu and homemade specials, no-smoking area, large garden and kids play area as well as plenty of seating inside and out. With a great sense of atmosphere the manager and bar staff have worked hard over the last 6 months to create somewhere for everyone. The pub now also has a multi-purpose function room and is currently hired out for any occasion from birthdays and weddings to christenings and conferencing. We are definitely worth a visit!

Very much a working class local community pub, tacky decor but friendly enough.
