please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I think `NoDisgrace is doing this lovely pub a disservice.

This is the kind of pub people cry out for, non intimidating friendly relaxed, good ale and alright food.

A great little gem hidden in Guildford. Has a great choice of local ales from the Hogs Back and Little Beer Corp. Chips are excellent and food looks extremely well priced. A great hashing pub with a real thirst worked up with all those hills! #onon
weybridgehash - 10 Feb 2016 10:22
Good back street pub, good beer at reasonable price`s, considering it`s a Punch house.
ThePilgrim - 13 Sep 2015 18:09
Visited this pub for the first time this evening. Good location (close to centre but off the main drag). Comfortable but unpretentious decor. Good selection of local beers (Surrey Hills Brewery). Friendly staff. Tables in sunny spot out the front. Very pleasant way to spend a summer evening. Mystified by the low rating.
garabaldi - 23 Jul 2014 23:04
After the expensive upper class pubs in the Surrey Hills, it was a relief to get down into Guidlford to the Robin Hood. It is a friendly, down-to-earth, locals pub on the edge of town. 4 ales were on - Adnams Lighthouse, Surrey Hills Shere Drop, St Austell Tribute & Triple fff Alton's Pride. Conversation rules inside, or at least it did on a Monday evening. Although live football is advertised throughout the pub. There's also an outside drinking area at the front. Not the best pub in Guildford, but worthy of any crawl.
blue_scrumpy - 22 Aug 2013 19:13
Agree beershot,it`s been cleaned up and back now on form.
Nuffsaid - 7 Dec 2011 18:45
Surprised by the last comment, went back last night and found everything in good order.

Four real ale on (had Ranmore and Tribute) both very well kept.

Barmaid was very plesant too.

Still one of the better pubs in Guildford.
beershot - 8 Aug 2011 16:42
Good to see a pub that had closed down reopen.

Visited last Saturday, the place was clean and inviting the real ale was excellent (can not remember what I had sadly!) and the lager was well kept too.

The food looked good and the prices were cheap for the town it is in.

Well worth finding, one of the better "proper" pubs in Guildford.
beershot - 15 Jun 2011 17:33
Dropped in with Mrs Smudge a couple of Sundays ago after being dragged out shopping, having heard that it had changed hands and been revamped. I had a very approachable couple of pints of St Austell Tinners (sorry can't remember the other beers on!) I remember the pub fondly in years gone by as one of the few real pubs left in Guildford, with decent beer and live music. Too early to say how it will fair this time, but no problem with the ale!
beer_monster_smudge - 25 May 2011 08:51
Nice little pub that's under new management. They have redecorated it and do food. They were selling Real ale for only 2 a pint last night. WOW!!! Good luck to them in their new venture.
Pubmania - 21 May 2011 14:28
THIS IS A PUB.....Again!!!! What a differnce a year makes..12 months ago this was a dump .Its now been reopened under new management and the pub has been cleaned up and is well worth a visit..The staff smart and friendly..the food is excellent .there is a good menu with an interesting selection of pies to choose from. There are four real ales to sample..the Tribute was particularly good and there are plenty of others to choose from such as Spitfire,Butcombe and Altons Pride, with others appearing soon.Well done to the landlord and staff for bringing this pub back from the dead Hope you do well
ToddScarlet - 11 May 2011 17:27
Went into The Robin Hood a couple of weeks ago after a long while. It was sad to see all the staff sacked from the pub down the road for various indiscretions including drugs and stealing working behind the bar and some of the customers barred for similar reasons. The ales were poor, and too abundant for a pub this size. I will not be returning.
BagBilbo - 11 Mar 2011 15:17
Re-opened and better. Clean and tidy. Good pies. But alas, as commented previously not quite the "original pub" any longer.
theguildfordfour - 23 Feb 2011 15:10
Lease up for grabs but I would not touch it with a barge poll.
1/ it`s a Punch pub and they only look after themselves NO one else.
2/ the area manager for this area is not to be trusted he will promise the earth but come up with Zilch bewarned.
This was always a good drinking pub small but friendly it can not be anything other than a drinkers pub.
ThePilgrim - 31 Oct 2010 18:33
Closed til further notice.
DrinkingJoeFrazier - 5 Sep 2010 12:14
This used to be a nice small local in the early 90s but is now, alas, closed and "tinned up".
flashharry1965 - 31 Aug 2010 11:16
BITE - please mark this pub as closed as it has been for the last month at least now.
DrinkingJoeFrazier - 13 Aug 2010 12:22
Some 1 needs to take it over and do a better job now.
BestBeerBoffin - 6 Jul 2010 21:24
I also noticed that it was closed when walking past. Shame if we have lost one of the towns real ale pubs, full of characters this place will be sadly missed.
Passing_By - 12 Jun 2010 10:09
All gone wrong and such a shame but anyone who`s had any dealings with the awful `Punch pub co`will know your banging ur head against a brick wall. The BDM for this pub has about 5/6 pubs closing down so he must be backing the landlords well NOT !!!! and they wonder why they have such a shite name.
I wish Tony all the best.
stroller - 7 Jun 2010 18:59
What an awful place. This really is for the oddballs of the town. Walked by only to be verbally abused by a punter outside. Perhaps i'll have to make another way across town in future.
drinkers_paradise - 17 Apr 2010 14:36
It`s strange any time a good comment goes on here about this pub lately it gets removed , Admin why is that.?????
Called in last Thurs night had a couple of pints of lager which was fine there were 2 real ales on and the ones I could see were clear and glass`s clean, this is a Trad.Guildford pub if thats not your bag drink elsewhere there are a lot of booring chain pubs around !!!!!
Good music started as we left,we will be back for sure. 7/10
BertNurk - 18 Mar 2010 17:45
Been here a few times last year and it was a little run down but its really hit the deck now. The beer is awful, its like its gone off. When I complained got another pint which was just as bad. The pub is really filthy as well. The glasses dont look washed, the bar top was dirty and it smelt of vomit. Looks like the landlord has really lost interest in the place and himself by the look of it. He's a bit of a mess with that hair and also seems completely spaced out. Like lights on no one home. The staffs attitude is not good either and I wont be going back. Shame, they have some good bands but the state of the place and the bad beer just turns me off.
BigAle - 13 Mar 2010 21:51
I have to agree. My rating of this pub has gone down even more. Visit the oak over the road instead. I
BestBeerBoffin - 13 Mar 2010 16:35
Very disappointing. Love the music, lots of live bands but beer is dodgy, its very dirty inside and the service is well below acceptable. Not a lot more to say really.
TheBarisDry - 12 Mar 2010 14:35
I have to agree. It not a good place. It was really dirty and the horrid red painted walls inside only made it look worse. I also had a problem with the landlord who when I complained about the bitter I was trying to drink which had clearly gone off, he basically told me that if I didn't like it I could go elsewhere. He looked very unpleasent and looked very unwashed so I did what he suggested. My frinds and I left to go elsewhere. I went there last year and it was in a low state then but now it has become really bad. I know they have good bands there but you expect somewhere clean and decent beer but neither are on offer here. I guess if you have had a few beers elsewhere before you go there, you probably wont notice it so much but I could see from others that they were not too impressed.
Entertainme - 11 Mar 2010 14:37
This place is a dump. Went there this week and will never go back. Its looks a poor site from the outside but you can never tell by appearences but I should have listened to my instincts. It was dirty inside and had not been cleaned properly. There was a strong smell of vomit by one of the window seats and the tables hadn't seen a clean cloth for a while. The landord was even worse. I think personal hygiene is not high on his list of priorities. His hair looks awful. I know you shouldn't judge people by appearences alone but seriously, this is like something out of Lord of the Rings. The beer was also awfull so I tried some wine and couldn't drink it. When I complained I was looked at as though I were spealing a different language. This is just my opinion and I am very tolerant but I will never, even go there again. Its your choice but you have been warned.
Entertainme - 11 Mar 2010 12:19
Bit of a locals, but does plenty of music at the weekend. Landlord is crazy guy with loads of hair.
JohnOcean - 23 Dec 2009 14:09
Live music Every Thursday, Fri and Sat, Get down your local!
PubWithTheGrub - 18 Oct 2009 13:56
i cant help feeling disappointed at goings on here really run down and not impresivcef in the leasts
running_around_pubs - 3 Oct 2009 01:10
Fab people and Fab beer cool music nights.
running_around_pubs - 28 Sep 2009 11:58
Live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

The live music on the Fridays tends to be blues music. On Saturdays its more your rock and roll.

Ok bands and atmosphere.

Bit grubby so would not eat at this venue, good pint of Youngs bitter.
best_pub_in_city - 21 Jun 2009 19:33
Does a good pint of Hepworth Iron Horse - worth a go.
BestBeerBoffin - 29 May 2009 11:04
Had a great time in here a couple of days ago, muisic was really good.Could not fault the ales (3 on I think),good crowd all in all a great pub.
ThePilgrim - 19 Apr 2009 15:13
This is such a wonderful pub. Full of character and great people. A great night out on a weekend and also good for quieter beers during the week. Can't fault it - the only REAL pub left in Guildford and I hope it stays that way. The landlord is crazy but in such a quirky and marvelous way - the way landlords should be. Keep up the good work!!
bringonthebeer123 - 14 Apr 2009 03:40
Good bog standard little off the town pub, bit off the way of the centre of town but worth a venture into, u may feel like u r being watched if going in here but its really ok with plenty of live music to keep the crowd entertained on these days, quite a few ales on from what i saw think the latest was youngs and iron horse also another one was off but better than some town places its fair 2 say.
PubMessenger - 22 Mar 2009 14:16
Ok beer. Agree with BeerSupper. The landlord guy (with lots of hair) is crazy.
GuildfordAndWoking - 10 Jan 2009 21:30
I still think this is better that The Oak it`s spit and sawdust yes but more down to earth people. (except the landlord he`s in outer space )
Beersupper - 1 Jan 2009 17:33
characters pub, bit of fun and some ale including bass.
BigAleDrinkhead - 1 Nov 2008 18:13
Prefer the Royal Oak, ya know what i mean.
TheSurreyPubMan - 24 Jul 2008 15:14
The Friday night bands are good. I went in during the easter weekend and enjoyed the experience. The beer was good and staff friendly.
alexw123 - 7 Apr 2008 17:40
One of those pubs where the people may not always be too friendly if they don't know you too well. That shall either put you off, or not.
anonymous - 8 Mar 2008 18:46
The best pub in Guildford without a doubt. Its a proper pub..
makethat2please - 11 Jan 2008 16:47
Called in the other night and had a real chilled out time. Its like going back in time to when pubs were places to drink and none of all this gasto crap.
This is still one of the best pubs in Guildford
Beersupper - 16 Nov 2007 15:54
Yeah Ok I grant that's it's a bit scruffy but I think it has a great atmosphere and the Bass is both kept well and good value for the overpriced town of Guildford. Great for a quick pint of decent Ale. If you want nicer decor than go up the road but pay for the privilige.
thirstyagain - 13 Nov 2007 15:33
Mucky looking bar area now i`m afraid gone down hill alot over the last 5/6 mounths possibly the landlord`s lost interest and spends too much time in the pub over the road.Rubbish cider served here as well.
Beersupper try this place now and see for yourself.
stroller - 14 Apr 2007 07:45
Funny people working at the bar, you could have your work cut out getting a drink
anonymous - 17 Mar 2007 23:56
Well Chinless i do rate this & The Royal Oak as my 2 fav.pubs in Guildford.A negative comment last time i agree on the Oak as the staff let it down on my last visit.Guildford town centre is full of some crap pubs the surrounding areas are not.But it still should not scare you off putting a name to one`s comments.
Beersupper - 3 Jan 2007 20:27
DIDNT RATE THIS PUB AT ALL.
SMALL
SMELLY
AND NOT THAT FRIENDLY !!!!!!
anonymous - 29 Dec 2006 23:03
Anyone know what happened to Greyhawk? (Meant to be playing Saturday 11th)

Also meant to be playing a few more times in the coming weeks...
anonymous - 12 Nov 2006 10:46
This place is by far the best pub for live music in the area. Tony and Nigel are the most laid back bar staff in the universe and all the better for it. I just popped in cos i heard some great rock music from inside and stayed all night. It has stacks of the one thing so many other places lack, a great friendly atmosphere. Nice one Tony P.S. band were called Band X awesome !
smeg - 6 Oct 2006 15:30
I landed up at this pub on Friday 8th Sep 2006. They had a great band playing called the big dog bite and it was rocking. It is somewhat small and no one was dancing when i arrived but i got dancing couldn't help it. and everyone was amazing and the whole place was brill staff customers alike very friendly and very welcoming. It have live music fri/sat a great little venue. 10/10
doofuss - 10 Sep 2006 21:07
Lovely pub small i agree but you have here what i would expect a real pud to be like.Good beer & good old pub grub.Well done guys.
Beersupper - 9 Aug 2006 12:59
We didn't know this pub was there, until we found that it was next to the nearest car park to Mount Alvernia hospital. Excellent wine - excellent beer (or so he said) - excellent food, and handy for Argos and the High Street for shopping. Not so excellent to be thrown out after lunch, as they don't do all-day drinking. Music was loud but, because it was via a good sound system, it was acceptable, even at lunch time. A great place to go after a hospital appointment - or probably even before!
Leone - 15 Mar 2005 16:39
Small locals pub. In on an evenin and very quiet (but there was no music, prehaps why). The guy behind the bar didnt seem to be doin much but drinking (was this the aforementioned 'tony'??). Didnt matter though cos he seemed quite pleasant. Nice pub for a quiet 'just been dumped' kinda pint. Oh yeah, the beer was top notch
franky - 27 Jul 2004 02:29
Tony runs an excellent house. Great food (esp. the fish menu), a variety of live music, and always a friendly welcome. Beers good too.
Barry Fentiman - 6 Dec 2003 02:15
Live music on a Friday night, good food on a Sunday. Very small though, which can make for a good atmosphere if the right band is in...
