I LIVED IN BOOKHAM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAVE RECENTLY RETURNED TO FIND A FEW THINGS HAVE CHANGED. CERTAIN PUBS ALLWAYS WERE FAVORITES AND THE ANCHOR WAS ONE! ON A RECENT NIGHT OUT I SAW A DIFFERENT SIDE OF THIS ONCE WELCOMING PUBLIC HOUSE! THE BAR STAFF AND MANAGEMENT SEEMED MORE THAN A TOUCH UPTIGHT LEADING TO A STALE AND UNWELCOMIG ATMOSPHERE I WOULD ALLWAYS RECOMEND THE WINDSOR A FAR SUPPERIOR EXPERIENCE

Beer seems to be on the decline the selection of five is good but quality is always preferred over quantity. I would rather have one well kept Ale than five bad ones. It's a shame as this is one of my favourite drinking holes
The Anchor seems to be losing its shine a little beers still good but not enough variation still a good local but not the best ale pub in the area
A nice period building.
Decent ales on tap. Coke from the can. Decent array of crisps.
Middle-aged to older crowd with the occaisional group of younger cyclists.
just heard theyve appointed a new manager yippee good luck paul

just pray that the idiots from the Crown don't descend on this place. If they do, well, that's it for Bookham; sad really, because it was my home village before I sodded off to Canada.
love this quaint little pub but when are they going to appoint a permanent manager to give it direction it needs it

Just like to thank the Anchor for taking in all us lost souls from the Oak!!
Very well kept beers - asked for a sandwich at 14:03 to be told they stop serving at 2 - not very friendly. Very popular though due to the other two pubs down the road being right tips.

A locals pub for local people, though worth a visit – occasionally. Ale generally good with the usually available guest ale, so long as it has not run out. Food not inspiring which reflects on the general ambience of the place. If busy (and not that busy as the interior is tiny) you'll have to fight for a seat / table / standing room as the interior layout is not well planned – it is very old though. Landlord / owner usually efficient but I believe you'd have to be in regular attendance for some years before you'd be considered a 'regular'. Don't remark about the cooking / chips (possibly oven chips) as you may be asked to take your custom else where – very English! Come on the smoking ban to make the air breathable.

Lunched here on a crowded Wednesday - snack food was good and cheerfully served, main menu attractive, and the atmosphere friendly all round even when one of the two babies with us had a tantrum - quickly removed and soothed, but even so in some pubs would produce an unwelcoming atmosphere.. Beers well tended, and served with an eye to a full pint.

I make a point of getting to the Anchor, downing a few, and braining myself on the overhead beams, whenever I am in England. Love the place.
Very friendly welcoming local. 2 Courage beers + 1 guest. Should be the other way around, but the pub, garden & charming staff make up for that.
The Anchor continues to be an excellent village pub. Well done to all concerned.
It may be a great pub, but I didn't get a chance to try it. Who doesn't serve food on a Sunday???
Nice to see The Anchor at Number One, where it belongs!

I come from Bristol, but I went to the Anchor after coming down to Surrey for a wedding. Lovely old country pub.
Friendly staff, good beer (courage best esp.), and although slightly pricey, I would rather drink here than any other pub in Bookham. Really enjoyed myself here last Christmas Eve, where the locals join together for a sing-song of Slade, Podgues and other Xmas classics!
A nice pub. A nice selection of ales, and the lager isn't watered down. The fruit machine is generous and the locals even sing carols on Christmas Eve!
Also got add that the pub quizzes are superb.
I really like this pub. Nice selection of beers and wine. The staff are really friendly. The garden is great to sit on a sunny day.
....and tuesday pub quizzes are Legendary.
Best pub in Surrey. Great in the Summer. And first pub on the Bookham Pub Crawl!
Great little pub. Best one in Bookham. Superb in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the sun.

If you expect Bookham to be a typical Surrey-type village, and therefore expect The Anchor to be a typical village pub, then you won't be disappointed.
A good choice for a summer's evening, and no oiks to boot. Very pleasant.
Splendidly charming and welcoming traditional pub - everything I was hoping The Bell down the road in Fetcham would be, but sadly isn't. Highly recommended
Small and charming, a pub with real locals!... but outragesously stuffy and smokey in winter... supposed to have an extraction system but doesn't work. Minimal selection of real ale nowadays. Good, well kept garden at the front for the summer.
Lovely old fashioned, clean pub. No children allowed in the bar, only in the garden during the summer. Has character and charm, excellent food at lunchtimes but gets busy. Great Place for a quiet drink, by far the best pub in the area.
This is a proper adult pub - free house, decent beer, food at lunchtime only, tele on only when the clientele ask for it (and its tucked away)no muzak, excellent air extraction and a fire in the winter. Oh, and the staff are friendly.

It is indeed the nicest pub in Bookham. But that's not saying much as the rest are all rubbish. Friendly staff and locals and a decent pint.

Trip over the bar as you go in, but nice in both summer and winter. Easily the most pleasant pub in Bookham.
