With time for a few bonus pubs, I trotted off to this establishment next to St Cuthbert's Church. The congregation in the Globe didn't seem to be too religious however, with a proliferation of swear words. I was greeted by the offer of a shower from the leak in the roof. But, the staff were friendly and in truth, the pub was nice inside, apart from the leak and the inebriated clientele. The ale range was better than most pubs - Cheddar Ales Gorge Best, Box Steam Story Box & Blindman's Golden Spring. There was also a good cider selection - Wilkin's Dry & Sweet, Harry's Scrummage, Dirty Harry's Mango & Lime Cider & Raspberry & Blackcurrant Cider & Taunton Cider Company First Press Original. With free Sunday night entertainment, what's not to like?

One word to sum this place up......BLAND! It just doesn't seem to have any atmosphere. I tried a local cider, it was good and the service was friendly. Nice enough, just lacking that little bt.

I hadn't been here since before the re-fit, but it has improved very much. A very friendly, local place, a bit off the beaten track but worth hunting out. The beers are mostly Cheddar Valley Brewery and are well-kept. The lunchtime food was very good indeed, and home-made (rather than microwaved) as far as I could see. Recommended. 7/10

One of the best pubs in Wells.. Staff are friendly and considerate.

The beer seems to be well kept, and the space represents a good refurb. Recommended.

Since my previous review this has been refurbished and now sports a slightly more contemporary atmosphere, although still manages to retain much of it’s charm. The front bar has old flagstones towards the front, with some wood strip flooring behind. On the walls there is some khaki green wood panelling lower down with cream plasterwork above, and there was a birck fire-place off to one side.

Beers this time were Tribute, Cheddar’s Potholer and Butcombe. Ciders were Thatcher’s Gold, Thatcher’s Heritage and Symonds Founder’s Reserve.

Visit this pub regularly on frequent shopping trips to Wells. Service is always extremely friendly and beer is well kept. Have never found fault with any of the lunchtime snacks / meals that we hae had over the past 5 years. These range from well filled large sandwiches (recommend steak & stilton, steak & onion).
There is an extensive selection of food choice - all excellent.

Have also been there for evening meals and have not been disappointed. Occasionally take my father-in-law there, with his wheelchair, and staff are always most friendly and considerate. A wonderful atmosphere - for me my favourite pub around Somerset.

A traditional old pub located just a minutes walk from the main high street. Theres a long flagstone corridor running the whole length of the pub with a large bar off to the left. This had a tiled floor and a couple of plasmas showing sport of some description. Theres a smaller and cosier looking bar off to the right with wood flooring. Towards the back is a small room with a pool table.

Theres a courtyard garden at the rear complete with a smoking shed that also sported a plasma. This seems rather superfluous. It was initially off until one punter came out for his fag, turned it on, and then promptly returned to the pub leaving it switched on.

There is a selection of old maps and globes around the place which seems entirely appropriate considering the name of the pub. There was an interesting looking menu chalked up on a board with most of the dishes around the 9 mark, although we didnt eat on this occasion.

Beers on tap were Butcombe and Doom Bar. Ciders were Blackthorn, Bulmers and Symonds Founders Reserve.

A very nice old style pub. A small selection of ales but they were well kept and the bar staff were very friendly. Pool table out back and some interesting wall decorations. Well worth a visit. Recommended.

Excellent pub, has changed hands in the last few years. Manny and Jo serve their customers very well. The food is superb thanks to Sean and Jo. reals ales, butcombe, Spitfire and a guest beer. Good cider and lagers. wine and spirits option very good. Thye have a smoking and non-smoking room; big screen for Rugby and Football, Pool Table area and a garden terrace and jukebox for those inclined to pump up the volume now and then. Warning; don't play the fruit machine it's never been nice to me.
