3 real ales were on offer including one from the Herts Red Squirrel Brewery and Youngs Ordinary. Both well kept. More of a restaurant than a pub these days, but it was still good to sit outside enjoying the views as the sun set, kept company by a Little Owl. Food here is reasonably priced and tasty.

Lovely country Pub with a large open garden and hidden down a narrow lane. The Menu is unpretentious and reasonably priced, you'll need to book if you want to dine inside, especially at the weekend. I have visited 3 times in 2013 so far.

Been open over a year now. Three hand pump real ales - two guests and one London Glory/IPA type. Guests from Tring, Buntingford and Red Squirrel and others plus several bottled ales. The ales really well kept - probably because it's run by the same people as The Woodman just along West End Lane. Not so much a real ale pub as The Woodman, more concentrated on the food, which is excellent. There is a daytime bar menu and daytime/evening restaurant menu with daily specials, all prepared to perfection by a very talented chef and service definitely with a smile! Excellent deserts and coffees. Creative menu, not overly expensive. Though the real ales may be few compared to The Woodman, to me, they are likely the best couple The Woodman would serve.

Refurbished and now open selling excellent Red Squirrel RSX (pronounced Arse Sex) and two other real ales. Small menu of good food and bar snacks. I love it.

Currently closed, but will be reopening in July to be managed by the very excellent crew from the Woodman at Wildhill. Should be good!

I often wonder how this place actually survives as it's as off the beaten track as somewhere this close to London can be. Although it's a McMullens house they do have a guest beer on. I dropped by one midweek evening to find an empty car park and a crowded bar - yet there are no houses in the vicinity. Had visions of a WIcker Man being constructed in an adjoining field. Beer is pretty good and it is a little more accesible to public transport than the Woodman ( a mile or so down the lane)

After pre-booking this venue for a 65th birthday menu with family,
8 Adults 7 children, we were asked for a rough idea of what we would like to order on the day, but when we turned up, firstly we were pointed generally (and abruptly) in the rough direction of our tables, and secondly, told "you have pre ordered, you don't need to see a menu".
After being gobsmacked at the attitude of what I am lead to believe is one of the joint owners, when the meal turned up, it was 'slightly less than warm'.
At no point did anyone come over to ask if we would like more drinks, so we had to go up through the meal for top ups. It's just as well when they collected the plates they didn't as the normal question of "How was your meal" as I would have answered with something less than pleasing. - On the upside, the play area is amazing, and the drink prices were reasonable. - I would recommend this pub for a drink on a warm afternoon in summer with the kids, but please don't eat there!

Excellent pub. Great food. Large beer garden. A must for walkers in the area ... well worth a visit
