After a swift half in the Blue Anchor at Bolton-Le-Sands, we moved on to the Hest Bank in a village above the West Coast Main Line. There are a number of different rooms. Food is clearly popular and we were greeted by two young waitresses as we entered. I think they were expecting us to have a table reservation. But we made a beeline for the bar, where Black Sheep Best Bitter, Thwaites Wainwirght & Goddards Scrum Diggity were all awaiting us. A rather unusual feature near the bar is a small fire with fake smoke coming from it. Reasonably busy.

The Hest Bank changed hands during the summer of 2007 and now no longer does the specials it was so popular for, which is a shame. When we visited last, it was very very quiet and although the menu is very impressive, it is now quite expensive and has put us off returning. The glasses we were served our drinks in had to go back as they were stained. I hope they will reinstate the specials, as it is a lovely place to sit out by the canal during the summer and the canal bus stops there. Dogs are welcome in the garden and there is usually water out for them.

having visited this pub many times I feel that it would be remiss of me not to comment. The cask beer (usually 2 cask beers) is kept well and served correctly. The food is a reasonable price and has a large choice. Thwe daily specials are good value.The service is always first class. There is a good wine list and not too overpriced. The pubs situation is by the canal and has a reasonably sized car park. It is open for food between 12 - 9 daily

What a joy this pub (no longer an hotel) is. Rooms on differing levels can all be seen on a circular your of the interior with each room holding some fascination. Built in the mid 16th century and extended in 1799, the rear portion is built of cobblestones and oak beams. Its fabulous history made be read inside with copies to take away and involves Oliver Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie, highwaymen and rioting Irish navvies. As one might expect for a canal side pub with an attractive outside area overlooking, food is big business here but six different real ales were on offer and cask were set up in a corner for a mini beer festival. So when next in the area, forget dreary Morecambe and head for the end of the promenade and Hest Bank.

I have dined a couple of times at the Hest Bank and have always found the beer and food to be excellent and have never experienced any problems with smoke. As an asthmatic non-smoker I know about this sort of stuff!

Quaint little pub found on the way to the Lake District - enjoyed a pints of Boddingtons which was well kept (but finished it by the back door).. Would not reccomend it for children unless its a hot summers day and they can sit outside in the garden..smoke completely filled the two small rooms

A village pub by the Lancaster Canal and close to the shore at Morecambe Bay. Good beer (Boddingtons draught) good food and good beer garden. A nightmare though for non smokers as the ventilation is abysmal and spoils this great venue.
