Lovely waterfront location with three Butcombe beers on tap. Had two of them, which were reasonably priced and very well kept.

Went here with my son. The Barman thought we had waited too long for our meal so gave us a free desert. Chocolat Fudge Cake with cream. My son was over the moon. Nice touch indeed! Good food and decent beer. Will go again.

A great place to visit on a fine day. Well kept Butcombe beers, very busy but not manic. Lovely!

Good beer, standard food, but a good price and very popular. Excellent location, on the docks. This place gets extremely busy on a sunny evening, but there is plenty of space for all.

Very pleasant Butcome pub with 3 Butcombe Brewery beers on when I visited on the 27th December 2010.
Keg and cask Ashton Press ciders plus keg Butcombe blonde and Veltins lager were noteworthy by being unusual and available. The pub was very busy, I had the pub curry which was quite good in a cheap and cheerful pub grub sort of way.
Worth a visit if on a crawl in the area, summer or winter.
7/10, or maybe even an 8.

Location wise, this has got to be one of the best pubs in Bristol with fantastic views across the harbour and on up to Clifton. Its a shame there isnt more outside seating to take advantage of this as the half dozen or so tables get filled up in no time.

The downside of this of course is that the place gets packed. Even on a not particularly sunny Sunday afternoon, there were no tables free either inside or out. The pub itself is pleasant enough with a bit of a nautical theme lots of wood panelling, a ships wheel and various other bits and pieces. Some interesting pictures of Bristol as well, both modern photographs and old drawings.

Service is quick and efficient, despite it being so busy. No sooner was a table vacated it was cleared and wiped down. Some other pubs would do well to take note. On the downside is the prices I thought 6.60 for two pints was a tad on the expensive side. Theres a decent enough pub grub menu, although again, the prices could do with a pound or two shaved off.

There was a good choice of beer on the bar, with Butcombe, Butcombe Blond, Brunel IPA, Brew Dog Trashy Blonde and Harviestoon Schiehallion. The cider was Ashton Press.

Visited a number of times while staying at the caravan site next door. On this occaision the beer was good and the beef and ale pie the best Ihave ever tasted. Recommended!

This used to be the one pub to miss out on a crawl round the docks due to its overpriced dodgy beer. I was dragged in there against my will recently to discover that the prices are now normal and the beer was fine. I've now found out that it has been taken over by Butcombe - that would explain it then!

Decent enough pub, good surroundings, well worth a visit

Popped in over Christmas. Did indeed feel the 'country pub' ambience, could imagine it'd be lovely to sit outside on a summer's day.

Beer range OK if unspectacular, had a good pint of the Bristol Beer Factory's Christmas ale which was in good form.

We also ate here - the food was fair enough for the price, none of us thought it was particularly expensive. They were also able to alter one of the dishes a little to cope with a dietary requirement, so we were happy enough.

Not bad - worth a stop on a summer's day (which I intend to do soon).

Called in a few times while staying in the caravan park next door last month, and enjoyed the food more than the beer which was a little suspect at times. Beer expensive too. Large food pub really.

Last poster can we safely assume you are the landlords "representative"?? People are entitled to their opinions,I wonder have YOU got a clue about running a pub or restaurant? Maybe if you did you wouldn't be pissing off potential punters by showing your ignorance towards them...............

It was not bread and cheese, it was a large portion of salad, pickles, good quality bread. Its people like Bob who have no clue about running a pub or restaurant. How do you think the food gets on the table? does it just jump from the suppliers shop? ever heard of staff? they need paying you know. Business rates etc etc. 6.00 for a good ploughmans is nothing. Grow up.

Its situation is undoubtedly this pub's main selling point. To sit outside with a pint on a fine day watching the constantly changing view across the floating harbour is a very pleasant way to spend some time.
The beer's OK, the service is friendly and efficient enough; I haven't tried the food, so I can't comment on that.

6 for bread & cheese not expensive?? Not one of my favourite pubs but redeemed by the views over the harbour
Bob_Sherunkle - 3 Aug 2007 15:23
Ignore the review below, it is NOT expensive. had a ploughmans for 6 quid. Good boozer on the river serving pub food but doing it well.

Very expensive, although kind of worth it. Has a unique atmosphere for Bristol - right in town, but when you step inside you feel like your in a boozer in the middle of the countryside. Lovely outside on the river in summer.
