Yet again another pub I visited and beer was very cheap, doesn't bother me but it looks like it is turning into a gay bar, theres even a paper you can pick up can't remember the name. Very old fashioned in places and a good beer garden.

Its a place to go for a late drink. No trouble in there usually. Sometimes service is slow.

Visited by gays. I have seen a man dressed as a woman, two men kissing and women holding hands. If you don't mind that its great.

Thank Christ that Jody's got the place back from that Geordie nutter that was running it. I've been drinking here since I was, er, *coughs* ..18, and it's gone through some weird phases but it's back to near its best now. It looked like it was turning into a gay bar by stealth at one point but that seems to have stopped now.
Since the hideous demise of McCarthy's this has become the place people go, and rightly so. Every time I'm back in Darlo, this is one of the first places I'll go.

Can anyone be of some assistance please
My grandfather used to the own the turks head in Darlington about 40 years ago I had never met him before he passed away and my dad Keith Thompson says he can't really remember him either. Is there anyone out there who could recollect any memories from meeting either my dad Keith or my grandad George.
Cheers
Jim.

Used to be quite a nice traditional pub but since a re fit a while ago now has been tried to create a more of a chain feel - may well be because its been taken over by a chain i dont know. now serves food that in my experience is inconsistent - sometimes f insists on party nights every friday night with a dj and a dance floor about four foot across, and the prices have been hiked up so now compare unfavourably to the tap and spile across the road or tanners round the corner.

Had after the refurb been an exellent place. Camerons Creamy is a nice pint and the prices are fairly average for a pleasant pub. The beer garden is very large and is a big advantage to the place.

Has since changed management and I'm not sure they can decide what to do with the place. I was suprised to hear the crazy frog being blasted out by the sound syetem. Unsurprisingly there were very few punters inside.

Hopefully it won't lose its way as it was one of the last good pubs for young people.

the turks head has recently been refurbished, and has lost its previou tag as a "dive." all has been changed, and it is now suited to anyone who wants a nice pint and to relax.

for pool it is not so good, the table is up top near the entrance to the beer garden, and is cramped into one corner. previously it had been located down near the front entrance, where there was enough room for about 6 people to play and talk etc...

the beer garden is the best bit, especially on a sunny day, it is great to just relax in without hassle. the drink is fairly moderate, although on weekends prices rise to over 2 a pint which is far too much, and with aruba ova the road near the Tap and Spile, where on all bottles it is buy one get one free on the bottles, and 1.25 for a pint of carlsberg, my best advice is to go there.
