I called in here on Monday night and enjoyed a few very good pints of Harvey's Sussex Best.
I will be back for more soon.

Surprised no-one has commented since my last post. Now three well kept rotating ales on and truly, truly exceptional food. The only problem I've had here is that sometimes its so busy I can't get through the door, which isn't really a problem, more a compliment. Publicans take note!!!!

Great improvements recently 2 ales on now, very good bar.

When this was an O'neill's, despite lovely staff I would rarely go in, however since it's change to The Lukin the place has gone from strength to strength and I find myself visiting more and more often. The staff are always friendly and more than ready for a chat, which is probably why the place has such a huge local crowd who know the staff well, but more importantly they're very efficient and even when it's busy as on fridays the service is still impressively quick.
The Harveys, and particularly the Guinness are always in top notch condition, and a new Fullers tap has recently been recently put in. The artwork on the walls is, in my opinion, far from 'poncy', and hardly an eyesore if you don't have an interest in art. Apparently the paintings are by a fairly well known Huungarian artist ('Kulocity', well worth a look) who is friends with one of the managers, and they're aiming to change the exhibition regularly.
A nice bright skylight at the back (though I usually prefer a darker, dingier drinking spot, but this is great in summer), foosball table to the side, pool table upstairs and a growing array of bits and bobs and personal touches behind the bar. What's not to like?

I had a pint of Harveys Best in here recently and it wasnt in the best condition. I doubt that Ill ever return, but if I do I think that I will pick from the selection of standard and premium lagers.

There is some seating crammed in at the rear of the pub under a glass ceiling, but I preferred to lean on the big window ledge at the front of the pub as it was a lot more comfortable.

There is table football and I think that a league has started or is starting up. The plasma screen is a nice size and it is only used for sporting events, so no constant Sky Sports feed.

There are a few caf type tables on the path at the front of the pub, but these seemed to be in high demand.

There are better pubs in the area.

Since a month or so ago it's not O'neill's anymore. Now It's called The Lukin under the management of the same guys as it used to be.

I have organised 4 pub quiz evenings here over the last 12 months for around 50 people. Latest Jan 2008. The function room upstairs is great for this with its own small bar. The change in management made little difference; the staff were as helpful as before, provided table service and ferried beers from the main bar as needed. Buffet came out on time and was devoured without complaint. Will be back to organise the 5th soon.

Had a good bash here today - 20 or so of us had a good meal in the upstairs room. No apparent evidence of real ale but on asking I was offered London Pride from downstairs - the obliging barman spent the rest of the afternoon going up and down the stairs for more! I agree with comments about the soon to be departing landlady - very friendly.

Only thing is the manageress is leaving in a fortnight, a real shame cos she makes that place !! But I heard if you want a free drink the codeword is "pint of cold beans please "

Excellent !!!

Went there for my first time yesterday, and really enjoyed the visit. The bar lady is all sweet and friendly and eventhough they only serve London Pride, the visit was worth it. The bar upstairs is wicket, with the giant ginga, with always some bar staff around or, in it's defect, the phone to order straight to the bar!!!
I'll might go at some other point, and as the manager explained to our group they're franchaise, so that's make it even better!!!

It's a footy bar and an Irish theme pub to boot - Having said that it was friendly and useful if to pass a half hour before moving on somewhere else. Didn't try the food so can't rate it. To sum up; not my cup of tea but welcoming for those that like that type of bar.

Go here quite a bit. Not massively into chain pubs but this one doesn't conform to your usual City Centre O'Neills. Had 1 absolutely cracking evening - bar lady was excellent and let us have access to a phone connected to the downstairs bar so we didn't have to step away from the pool table when we wanted to order drinks! Superb! Then joined some lecturers from the nearby Uni and had a good friendly chat til closing.
Always seem to have a good time here.

Pretty decent for an o'neils. Slighty hidden away, wouldnt know it was there if your not a local. Friendly staff, quick service (though not busy when i was in there).

the staff here are fantastic (and mostly actually Irish) - food`s good , and there`s always space upstairs for those Friday-afternoon "where do go" crises.

table service and friendly staff. Don't normally like fake Irish pubs, but this one deserves a high rating
