Changed hands recently. Not doing food other than filled rolls. Nice pint and very friendly. Great log burner. Pool table. Skittle Alley. TV located out of the way of the bar which is a nice touch. Car Park. Beer Garden. Good locals pub.

Changed hands recently. Friendly local family. Ringwood, Doom Bar and 6X all on handpumps. A selection of bottled beers and wines. Black Rat at your own risk. Good quality pub grub with several vegetarian options. No faffy food. No telly. Well patronised skittle alley. The landlord would like to have live music and I believe there are plans afoot for a beer festival. Things are looking up..!

When I went there recently I felt this was a really friendly pub with welcoming atmosphere. The the bar was clean and comfortable and the real ales were well cared for (I don't usually drink anything else). They had a wide choice of food from simple bar snacks to a mix of traditional and special dishes of amazing quality served in the restaurant. I ate in the restaurant, the food was beautifully presented and it tasted just perfect. Definitely not the average pub grub! It's certainly gone on my favourite list and I'll be back there the next time I'm down that way.

What bigdog06 fails to realise is that these activities while they may have been popular in the past are not financially sustainable in the industry right now. Hence why pubs keep on closing is that they have to be geared more to the food offering.
As far as i can see, this pub tries to do this while encouraging the drinking trade.
It is a shame that the social aspect of just coming out for a pint with friends is lost on some people and they feel the need to have added attractions to stimulate the occasion.
I am disappointed that in a village where this pub is the only one that less than 10% of its occupants coming here !!!

The pub has been recently taken over by the people running the Bridge Inn in West Lavington (already a well established pub in the area for the last 5 years) . New menu and beer offering at the Rose & crown has been a welcome relief to me as a lover of both. I haven't been there for a while now but on visiting this week after hearing the news of the new opening i was impressed with the new decor, food and drink.

This pub did have a good reputation a long time ago and by the looks of things, the new owners have the potential to rekindle this.

I will certainly be back there again soon, good value for money
