A difficult pub to find this one so make sure your sat nav is up to date. When you arrive at your destination you have to park your car on the other side of the railway then cross to get there. The pub is inbetween a canal and the ship canal. Apparently they have a lot of whiskey ,over 300 of them from what I have heard and if you drink so many of them you get prizes. Drink 300! And you get the bottle of your choice. There was 3 real ales on and we all tried each others which were on form. I'd visit this pub again but I wouldn't drive next time.

Went here on Thursday night, four of us got a taxi over from Warrington. Concur with views below - had six real ales on, 3 of them from regional suppliers - the best of the evening being George Wright - Pipe Dream. The other beers were also very good, including Courage Best, GK Abbot Ale, Ruddles County, Six Bells Bursting Out and Bowland Pheasant Plucker.

Tricky pub to find first time round but well worth the effort. Good selection of real ales, the Bowland Slogger was particularly tasty. Lovely location by the river, just gutted this place isnt my local!

Classic pub in an unlikely spot near Fiddlers Ferry power station which is visible from much of Cheshire and South Lancashire- the power station not the pub! It is best reached by the canal towpath, situated as it is between the Sankey Canal (unnavigable) and the River Mersey, just on the Lancashire side. As such, it's great for walkers and cyclists doing the trans-pennine trail, and can be incorpoated in a walk from Warrington to Widnes. However, it can be reached from Penketh over the level crossing and canal bridge. The pub has reputedly been here for centuries, and gets its name from a ferry service that operated for people to cross the river. The inside is highly traditional, with a long bar and several rooms leading off to each side, each filled with plenty of interesting memorabilia. There appeared to be an upstairs area which was closed, and also a large beer garden affording picturesque views over the Mersey, which must get busy in summer. Sunday afternoon trade was bustling on my visit, good to see. Great choice of ales, at least 4 which I hadn't encountered before and friendly service, i plumped for a blonde one which I forget the name of, but it was in fine form. I recommend that you seek out this pub if in the area, you will not be disappointed.

i have been going to this pub for over 50 years. it is a pity that they no longer do food in the evening as it was one of the best pubs around for their restaurant.

Went here last Sat for the Harley owners rally. what a great setting, staff and most of ale. Brill. selection. Saw some great bands, especially Sticky Fingers and The Raynemkers, who luckily did not live up to their name! Both played a great selection of classic Rock and Blues and no one cared that there were some repeats. Loveley bunch of people from the bike clubs and a great family day out in aid of a local charity. Good job I live too far away from this place or I'd be in every night; even when it floods!

Food is back on again at lunchtime and it is excellent . Great selection of guest bitters and an ambiance that none can match!

Traditional local serving well kept ale in a picturesque location.Gets flooded out on occasions (see the water level plaques inside!) A must for a hot lazy summer's day. I only wish it was a bit closer to home.

I've been going to The Ferry Tavern for a few years now when we visit friends who live nearby. I always look forward to a great pint and am never disappointed - especially at the annual Beer Festival!
I'll be back soon for something to soak up the cheese & biscuits! Keep up the good work.

Pat and Terry may have left the pub , but their daughter Jade still serves the best beer for miles around . Well worth finding on a summers day .

Great friendly pub with good ales and fantastic whisky selection...You will need to look for this pub as its off the beaten track across a railway line and canal but well worth a visit...Just recently tastfully refurbished after recent flood...Large outside drinking area ideal for kids just be aware of railway and canal if your kids are very young and wander a lot...

You'll never find this pub by accident; it's on the banks of the Mersey next to Fiddlers Ferry power station, and you cross the canal and railway to get to it. But worth the search, has good choice of cask beers and numerous whiskies. Used to be renowned for its food, but this stopped suddenly a year or two ago. ( Might have returned, I've not been in that area for a year or so).Outside drinking area with Mersey views.

Consistently has good choice and quality of beer - good enough to keep me out of the town centre where I used to drink regularly.
