Early this year this place had a food hygiene inspection by an organisation called Scores On The Doors (SOTD)and received one of the worst reports I've ever read.
This organisation works under the authority of the local Council and produced the following summary for this pub :
Food Hygiene - 6th February, 2008 Food Hygiene Award No Stars Confidence in Management Little Hygiene and Safety Very Bad Structural Very Bad
I would advise everyone to carefully read the exacting criteria as to how these awards are arrived at. No rating left, not been in there for years.

Interesting sort of place. I lived up the road until recently and its ok if you cant be bothered to go 'out' out. Friendly sort of place but not much going on really.
It seems the place where 90% of the pubs income comes from about 6 big drinkers, with the rest being made up by the odd student who got lost looking for some of Guildfords 'charm'.
I guess it serves it regulars which is, after all, what a good old fashioned pub is supposed to do.

I live near this place and I've tried many a time to like it as my 'local'. But boy is it terrible. I have no idea how its stays open. I have never seen more than half a dozen people in there. How anyone can review this as a good pub? I've known it for 4 years and it has always been a horrid place. By all means go and try for yourself if you fancy being stared at. Oh, by the way, you'll have to walk as there is no where to park.

This 'pub' is truly the depths of what anyone might consider to be a 'good' night out. Rubbish decor. Rubbish beer. Kids drinking. Rubbish atmosphere. UUGhHHH. When was the last time you thought a pool table @70p would be the highlight of your night out. Get a life! this place is awful. DO NOT GO.

It's just been shut down by Guildford Borough Council, as the landlord was selling alcohol to underage kids, plus he didn't even have a proper licence.
See the licensing sergeant's report here:

I loved this pub when it was the Pig & Tater. Glad to see it is keeping up the good work.

this pub has a warm and friendly atmosphere but most importantly it has a reasonably priced pool table (70p). At 7ft by 4ft the table offers aggreable dimensions. The landlord - think his name was Paul - seemed pleasant enough. you could do a lot worse than a night out at this hostelry.

A wonderfull place, full of character and charm. A locals local with a saloon 'wine bar' style facility opening soon. The pool is cheap (70p) on a 7ft table and the beer is as cheap as any in the locality.
Highly recommended
