user reviews of the Albion Inn, Loughborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Very nice, quiet, out of the way hostelry - both welcome and beer worth the short walk along the canal. Beer reasonable, without being spectacular. A useful bolthole from the shopping mania of the Belton Road.

Nice pub, with a Landlord who you can just tell has been installed there forever and is very happy about it (nothing wrong with that at all).

I visited last Christmas, and the pub was inviting, warm and cosy. Just what we wanted on a cold snowy evening. It wasn't particularly busy, but had a good atmosphere and I think games were available.

They had a couple of beers I hadn't seen or tried before, so it is hard for me to be super-critical of the beer condition. However they tasted good, and the landlord clearly took care and pride in them (you can tell on the pouring, I always think).

This pub would be on my good pubs of Loughborough list.

Pretty ordinary locals' pub by the canal. Cheap nosh for lunchtimes. 3-4 real ales available. Nothing wrong with the place, but nothing particularly special either.

This is a pub I have visited a couple of times before and been prefectly satisfied with it. However we went there yesterday and the beer (Albion Special) was decidely vinegary - so much so that two of our party switched to lager!! I tried a beer from Blue Monkey which was OK but the pub is not in the 2011 Good Beer Guide and I guess this is the reason why. Same licensee but something has slipped. I do like the place but will be cautious about a future visit.

Surprised this one hasn't been reviewed for so long as it would appear to be a GBG regular. It's a traditional locals' boozer situated on the canal bank, with a small access road leading to a car park from the main road (Be careful driving on here!)
It doesn't look much like a pub from the outside, and if it weren't for the pub sign you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a house. Inside, it's rustic and basic, but cosy- pleasantly ungentrified. A small L-shaped bar room (with a welcome real fire) has oak-tree style tables and a brick-built bar. There's also an adjacent games room with darts, where most people seemed to be congregating on my visit- in contrast the bar room was very pleasant. There's also a jukebox in here.
The range of beer is pretty strong, with 6 available, a mixture of locally brewed beers and the nationals. I had a pint of the local stout, the name of which unfortunately escapes me, but it was very good.
It's quite quiet in comparision to the nearby Swan and Rushes, but is equally traditional, and pleasantly located. The beer range doesn't disappoint so I'd recommend a visit.

Keith and Maggie Hartley are the licensees of this 'good old fashioned pub' dispensing excellent quality real ale in convivial surroundings. With it location on the canal a number of rivercraft (narrow boats mainly) also use the pub in the warmer months.
