Went into this pub once but there was no-one there, no drinkers, no bar staff, no-one. Eerie Portuguese grill still going strong and has thankfully kept the "Woodcocks" on the exterior

gentrification.

this place is now a portuguese grill, and will probably survive for about 3 months given the level of custom

When I moved in up the road my flatmate was fearful of this place, mainly because of the grim exterior and the anonymous jerk chicken take-away next door that loosely resembles a Compton swap-meet in the evenings. Once you're inside, though, this is a charming little pub, a million miles away from 'skunkweed!' Brixton outside. The decor is archaic but the locals are friendly and the drinks are cheaper than Cold Harbour Lane.

Well worth a visit if you like the more jagged side of London nightlife.

Is sited next to a VERY dodgy looking gangsta hangout. Don't know what inside's like, however.

Top local boozer. Sadly the pickled eggs fell foul of the recent refit. But fear not, they kept the carpet. Now has chairs too. Duke box could do with an overhaul though, too much faux Oirish balladry.

Donegal Paul is a legend. Check him out now before he starts playing Wembley.

One of the few pubs where you can walk in to find no-one there, punters, bar staff - just no-one.

Well....where to start. A real 'flashback' to the days when pubs were 'proper' pubs. A quite incredible local boozer. No frills, no Pils and no credit cards over the bar. Can often be quite quiet, which you don't get much of in Brixton.

Expect the unexpected here! Impromptu wedding receptions and general drunkeness. Not nasty, vibe wise, as far as I know.
