please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This has recently been bought and refurbed and is now an out and out gastropub so if you want to hang out and chat around the bar, don't bother with this place, though the food is OK it's quite pricey, even a fairly ordinary chicken dish will set you back 12-13 - Oh, nearly forgot, it's now called THE HURSTWOOD

Excellent pub for a lunchtime stop on a long walk or an evening visit for a meal (locals recommended the fish to us which was excellent but one of us had a curry, which wasn't!). Not the world's best beer garden but then again the road's so quiet that you're as likely to see a horse as a car. The landlord can look a bit a grumpy sometimes but that's just his face; seems OK if you get to talk to him.

Notice outside suggests he's extending his opening hours (from 5pm and all days Friday and Saturday) which is a good thing as we went past once with friends on a long walk only to find he wasn't opening for another half hour.

Four of us had supper there last Friday. The meal was excellent and very good value. They still serve Harveys Beer which is a pleasure in a pub owned by another brewery. The new landlord, Colin, and especially his partner Dee, were very friendly and made us very welcome. The pub was busy as usual with a lively mixed crowd and the same young face behind the bar kept some continuity.

Can't praise the evening enough and will be back again soon.

Landlord change doesn't seem to have been for the better, a bit grumpy, mind you, last Saturday night there were only 4 people in the bar, plus the landlord, that's not good news is it, no wonder he's grumpy!

Just about to change if it hasn't done so already, last landlord wasn't a natural but was always OK with us. Good young barman, very friendlyt and efficient and decent beer. Gather the new man is goilng to have to employ a chef whereas the Missus cooked here before, can he really afford the rent AND a chef?? Good luck. Will pop in in a month or so to see how it's going.

Fairly plain village local that is welcoming and has hop vines hanging from the beams. Drank Harveys whilst watching some of the England Wales match. Had already eaten but menus featured snacks for lunchtime and more substantial for evenings
