What on earth has happened to the Boathouse...!!! :o(
It's not what it used to be, or should be..!!
I found it sterile, no character left, the serving bar is 20% the size it used to be, and you now get 80% less the service you used to get. Choice of drinks has also decreased.
I have not eaten here recently, and I'm probably not likely to...
when there's the Kingfisher just over the bridge (3 mins walk away), which is a prime example of what a "good pub" should be...!! Try there instead. :o)

Went there for lunch today, had two main courses and two drinks and cost nearly 30.00. Was definitely not worth that price, the food was average and the bar/restaurant was not particularly clean. Will definitely not go there again.

NOW the "Boathouse Hotel"....total refurb about the end of 2011. And not for the better! this pub is more like a hotel foyer or airport departure lounge now....no character anymore!
The bar is a quarter the size it used to be, and the prices of the limited selection of drinks are a lot higher than they used to be!
Have I put you off drinking in here....?....I've put me off....!!
So I am down-rating this pub from a 7 to 3. :o(

No real ale and my pint of Boddingtons was pretty insipid. Service not quick, food was ok but overpriced.
GuideDogSaint - 10 Oct 2011 16:31
Bloody expensive! Pint of lager and a small coke (out of a pump) 5.90
Fish and chips 10.99 (with cold peas)
Sandwiches start at 5.99
Nice view of the river and ducks!
Recent refurb, but too expensive-I wont go again!

I love this pub, won't be spending the evening but I am getting a pre new years snack on in here, know the chef, and he has prepared just for me;

Cavier dumplings deep fried in a Stilton tempura
Yard of pate
Three bottles of chateau neuf du fant
Hoisin crispy owl on a blanket of fluffy ruffs
Eighteen shots of belvedere, followed by a pint of piping hot cheddar
I X metre of mystery meat
Old speckled hen
Spittoast bonobo smeared with squid ink
Wind of the willows - contents of toad hall baked to perfection
8 litres of pepsi
And finally
Fantacide- third world infant human being stuffed with orange zest and poached in apple cider
They always accomodate me at the boat house... First class

Bit disappointed with this place, went in there, staff are friendly nice environment, couldn't get any boat sorted out despite the name, like to get it on when off duty.

With the above pub do yourself a favour and just dont go, it is sterile, unorgainsed and the overpriced muck they claim is food is microwaved.
I stayed at the hotel a couple of times due to work and I made the mistake of eating there on both occasions .
Also they NEVER EVER seem to have bitter, I am starting to think they no longer are able to sell it due to costs or retailer issues.
The Kingfisher is far better across the way for its beer and general environment.

I'm originally from North Wales, now living in Surrey, and my parents regularly use the Boathouse hotel and restaurant when they are visiting. Our opinion is that it's never been worth getting excited about, but has always been fit for purpose. The food has been reasonable and the beer ok, and its setting really works in its favour. Very recently, however, I turned up for a quick meal with my partner and was left disappointed. The food quality was poor and sparse, and it gave the impression of being microwaved in a hurry. This wasn't great as the food was hardly cheap! By far the most disappointing, perhaps even angering aspect, revolved around the final bill. I'd only been charged for one round of drinks, rather than the two I'd had. With an honest heart, I pointed this out prior to paying. The barman was grateful and told me I could have them on the house for being honest. This was nice. However, a week later I've checked my bank statement to find two separate transactions - one for the meal and first drink round, then another for the second round of drinks I was told were on the house. Not only is this downright cheeky, but given I gave no authorisation for this second transaction, I'm not even sure it's legal. I won't be returning to this venue.

If you go to a pub to drink hand pulled beer you can forget this one.We went on Friday 4th June and the London Pride was off so we went over the bridge to the Kingfisher.
Foolishly we returned yesterday lunchtime in the mistaken belief that the London Pride was bound to be on-the barman (who is a nice enough chap) pulled off three pints of cloudy end of barrel muck-had they really sold a whole barrel of London Pride between 7.00pm on Friday and 1.00pm on Sunday?
As the Alton Pride was also off we ordered 3 pints of Bombardier (not our beer of choice) but-you've guessed it -it went off leaving the pub entirely devoid of real ale.Unfortunately this is a common occurrence. So it was off to the Kingfisher again!
This pub recently acquired new owners after the last lot went into administration. If the food and the accomodation are as badly supervised as the beer it won't be long before the administrator appears again.

Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

Went there on Tuesday 23/12/2008 after taking my grandchildren on a christmas santa trip.We were the only four people in the place as it was early afternoon.ordered fish, chips and beans for the kids got peas instead ,ordered grilled chicken burger got a beef burger instead,
Kids meals came back with the beans which I think they scraped from the bottom of a saucepan because they were burnt asked to see the manager was told he has just popped out. not a sign of we are sorry would a refund be in order or kiss my you know what.
ALL SAID AND DONE AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE OUR DAY OUT was not as it should have been.

Is this really a pub? Doesn't look like one. We stayed in the hotel and found it a pleasant place, with very nice staff. If you want a pub, I can recommend the Kingfisher, just the other side of the bridge. Decent food and lovely staff.

Many months have passed since my last comment and there have been many changes of staff.

Which is a pity, as the current management (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense)simply have no idea what they are doing. Or possibly they don't care. I think the current chaos at the bar is a little of both.

They don't care about the real ale any longer that's for sure. Rather than serve the stuff they'd rather clean the line (anyone who has run a bar knows you don't need to do this every barrel change - although perhaps that's a cask marque reg (what a waste of time that lot are)).

To me it just shows a total lack of knowledge of your product.

The real pity is, that there is a young barman who is very, very good. He would make a fantastic manager given the right education in how to run a bar. I do hope that he has the sense to realise that he's not going to get it at this place and goes somewhere else to develop his potential.

There are others. There are two i'd say are have been there long enough to know what to do when the barrel/gas goes. But they don't! Not their fault of course, but where the hell is the management to show them?

Judging by this place's latest intake of management, running a pub is a secondary consideration to running a pub.

The Boathouse. Well, i think its a nice pub! Friday night we had a good craic in here..! Mrs TJ even ordered a decaf-latte...at 10pm...and we got one...free of charge..!! How's that for service!! (Mind you, we did spend about 50 on drinks..!!) Gr8 pub! Roll on Spring/Summer, when i can drive the launch down there.. and moor up wiv the toffs..!! I understand the comments from 'huntface' and 'Isaac Hock', but a bar is what you make it!! Take a bit of atmo with you, and you can have a good evening in your back yard...!! I'll drink to that...! Ciao4now TJ

tried the boathouse last night instead of the kingfisher opposite - should have gone there instead. the service is slower than usual and thats bad - it was taking 20mins+ to get served at the bar and they werent very busy and food was about 1hr15 wait and again it was pretty empty for a very nice sunny evening. staff didnt even seem to know what a pint glass looked like so ended up with 3/4pint tall glass? the food was fairly good - never a problem but just let down by the poor service - perhaps the manager may want to consider using the other half of the large bar which ive never seen used and a few more staff serving - the kingfisher is a much smaller pub and the wait/service is far superior. location is great so they have that right..

Used to be a great pub back in the day when it was still The Galleon. Now it is sterile, devoid of atmosphere, and rubbish. No more needs be said.

I live opposite so it is kind of my local. Beer is nearly always good quality but limited to Youngs or Abbot. Food is pretty standard but very reliable in quality. Staff are freindly and generally efficient.
This Pub really comes into it's own in the summer when the outside benches are great- if a bit noisy from traffic over the bridge.
One final thought... roll on the smoking laws! Then the best seats in the house - the leather sofas will be fair game for us non smokers!
CamraCarl - 25 Feb 2007 23:21
Go on.. push the boat out..! Have a drink down at the Boathouse. Never disappointing, always refreshing those parts we needn't mention!
Love the food, and the river aspect. Great pub! 10/10 TJ

Once you venture inside away from the rather unpleasent modern exterior, you begin to appreciate the fantastic views onto the River Thames from the main bar and restaurant. The staff had made a real effort with classy Christmas decorations, which my 3 yearold loved. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. The food could have been a little hotter by the time it arrived at the table, but it was tasty, well cooked and of good quality. Really impressed and will return in the summer to take advantage of the outside seating. Great place for well mannered kids.

THE BOAT HOUSE.
They have Kronenbourg, Saint Miguel, John Smiths, Fosters, Strongbow, and Kronenbourg Blanc, on tap. Fantastic venue, plenty of room, i spent most of the afternoon outside in the sun, overlooking the river & watching the ducks (and fighting the wasps off!).
Then 'Laid back Ron' and 'Phil the Fossil' dragged us inside 4 a bite 2 eat. The 20yr old bar chappy was from Vancouver (Canada)...great place...my boys in Vancouver Island at the moment. If you've not been to Vancouver, i suggest u go. See the best city in the world! Bar none...!! (I luvvit there) Unless u know otherwise...!?! TJ

The Boat House is an excellent pub for Sunday lunches by the river. I recommend it highly.
On a sunny day its great. Folks come by car, boat, & foot, to sample the delights here!
I've brought the family here a couple of times for Sunday roast dinners, and never been disappointed. You may have to wait 30mins at busy times at weekends to get your meal, but thats the sign of a good pub, everybody goes, and goes again!
If its too busy, try the Kingfisher pub immediately opposite on the Shepperton side of the river Thames. They're both decent pubs. See you there..! TJ

A sanitised hotel rather than a pub, however, the service we got was pretty good and the food wasn't bad either.

A real "Family" pub and make no mistake - If you have elderly relatives visiting, take them here for a meal they will love it.

Therefore, not the place to go for a fun night out - But perfectly nice for a drink and a meal as the food was excellent.

we tried the boathouse, for the first time in ages after we'd seen a review in the Daily Telegraph. Still the same 'order at the counter' format but apart from that everything was outstanding. Food was good (I had the Lamb rump, Sheena had the Chicken & Avocado salad), bit of a wait but it was saturday night and they seemed quite busy. Friendly staff, worth a visit.

Is that waitress still screaming into her mobile phone in the carpark?

We stayed in the Boathouse and bridge hotel for two nights and we were astonished by the pleasant and helpful staff, room standards and scumptious food.
We would reccomend this excellent hotel and will return in the near future
