Reading the previous comment, I can only say that it has not been done up in the 3 years since robamy visited, it is a dreary place.
My wife popped in for the singing, and was charged £2 for half a shandy, and she was told that Mark, a long time bl**dy good barman, had been sacked by Pat, the boss/owner, for having time off with an upset stomach.
Only Hophead on, the other ale being undrinkable.

Excellent food but they need to do something to brighten the place up. When out on a dank night it's not as cosy and comfortable as it could be. Decent selection of beers and a nice enough atmosphere.

I like the downstairs bar but have not tried the restaurant. Unfortunately on my last visit the beer was not in particularly good condition.

I don't drink real ale and I have never eaten in this place so I can only comment on the facilities and the ambiance both of which were excelent.

The food in The Pond's upstairs restaurant has been good for years but timkohlman's spot on about the pub itself - it's declined immensely.

A friend of mine bought a pint of Harveys (lucky chap, theres' not been any on whenever I've popped my head around the door), and it was rank - full of bits. He took it back to the bar only to be told that it was "real ale and supposed to be like that".

Another one bites the dust...

Interesting that the positive comments here are about the restaurant and (excellent) Thai food. I'm afraid that downstairs the pub/drinking bit has gone downhill in recent months. The choice of beers has been reduced, and the smell of the Gents' toilets permeates the bar. Yuk! I hope this pub will get a grip and restore its high standards.

Absolutely amazing food, especially their sunday lunch. The attention to details, quality and quantity is a shock to the system at these cheap prices! We were also utterly charmed by visits from a cat next door called Minou, on two occasions. She sat on our lap and tried to eat our dinner!

heh, is that the witch with the long black hair?
I love this place, though the nibbly food tends to be a bit small for people spending hours and hours drinking.
Occasional impromptu music. Friendly atmosphere. Shame the space invaders cocktail cabinet doesnt work..

Great little pub, nice atmosphere, cheery staff (apart from the lady on monday nights). Proper pub atmosphere and real 'local' but friendly place. The food at lunchtimes is homemade, fresh and good value and the Thai is fantastic.
