big poster outside advertising Greene king Ipa and carlsberg for 2.10 a pint,so naturally as a drinker of only the finest ale i opted for carlsberg. Disinterested barmaid more interested in talking to the locals than serving, hideous wallpaper and loud music, the place does very cheap done with mains from 3.49 but not a place i would try food i dont think,5/10

Not to be outdone by Sam Smiths Middle Age and Victorian museums GK have taken things a vast leap further back here by recreating Neanderthal World. As a token gesture to ale they had Abbot on but I wasn't fooled and had a pint of the 'Wop' lager. A garish interior populated by tatooed folk extolling the virtues of doing three short lines in succession over one hit. Some fat get talking complete Bollux on his mobile barred people's entry and exit and seemed upset (judging by the grunt effect) when people actually wanted to get round him. Kyle could easily do half a dozen of his shows from here.

Very loud music. Eye-wateringly lurid interior paint job. One real ale on (Abbott), but didn't stick around to try it. Terrible place.

No real ale. Bit of a rowdy locals' drinking den. Okay if you want a pint of lager, a couple of loud television screens and banter.

OK beer and has Sky & Setanta. Good bit more expensive than the Wetherspoons over the road though!

A popular pub in the town but it is hard to see why! A garish refurb a few years back can give you epilepsy just by looking at it, very bright and ugly!! Beer is well kept and the bar staff are extremely friendly. Has a good sized out door area which is probably its saving grace. At weekends the music is too loud to communicate with anyone in anything other than mono-syllabic grunts or sign language, this often makes ordering what you want difficult.

It's not as grim as that.It won't win pub of the year but it's a decent honest boozer. Wait here or the ever lengthening queue in Somerfield ( only to be served by an in bred), I know my choice.

Hardy and hansons refurbished this pub about two years ago, transforming it from an old boozer serving aging alcoholics and younger 'hard cases' into your standard town cebtre pub (complete with karaoke night - avoid like the plague - big screen TVs and bouncers at weekends). It now does a much better trade, particularly at weekends, when it gets packed wall to wall, though has lost the air of faded glories and lost dreams that it once had.
Positives? - still does a decent, well-kept bitter (Kimberley), superb location and good mid week for a quiet beer and the football. Worth a look, just avoid Fri/Sat night unless ear-splitting music and packed, sweaty pubs are your thing.
