Was in Saturday night the beer was good admittedly was on guinness all night but was good and service from great bar staff.

Busy and mostly lager drinkers which I think goes a long way to explaining previous comments. My other half said his pint of ale was awful. Food ok in a mass catering sort of way. Not expensive though and location is pleasant.

Paid a first visit. Initial impressions confirmed runga1978's pretty favourable views (though I did not eat there). But, sadly, as his/her comments proceed I have to agree. I too had a pint of Black Sheep and, even if not absolutely off, it had a decidedly sour taste. And that, taken with other BITERs' comments, is odd. This is clearly a beer-drinkers' bar. I did not see a lot of wine being quaffed so why can't they get the draught beer right? The lager crowd seemed happy enough - but then you have to put a lot of effort into fouling up a metal barrel of goat's outflow - but with all that ale on the pump they must notch up a lot of disgruntled drinkers each day.

A mixed experience! The food was actually rather nice (we had the fish and chips). The pub is well presented, there is a lovely restaurant section and the bar is comfortable. The staff were friendly enough. However, the beer was absolutely awful. My pint (black sheep) was sour and barely drinkable and my friend's pint (EPA) was similar. It had gone off completely. The barman attempted to change the barrel and both him and a colleague showed a complete lack of knowledge and respect for ale. They hadn't a clue what they were doing and after much head scratching, pouring pints where the head was bigger than the beer, and some procrastination eventually gave up. My friend was offered another pint. He chose Hobgoblin, but sent it straight back as that too had gone sour. He gave up on ales as he clearly was not going to get a good pint, tried a pint of (dare I say it) Carlsberg which tasted metallic and flat.

They had a range of about 8 ales, and were completely unable to deliver a half drinkable pint between them. The Cask Marque they displayed on some taps must have been stolen from elsewhere. Unbelievably awful.

Impressive 9 cask ales on, mostly classics but some independents as well. Agree with the last comment.. not sure how they got Cask Marque... Barman pulled a 1/2 of black sheep and tipped all the head in the tray and presented it looking like dish water. To be fair when asked to re-pull and leave the head on it was mush better. The Bishops Finger and York Brewery Guzzler were acceptable... but some staff training required... don't over pull and loose the head in the drip tray!

Beer quality usually varies, ranging from tip-top to sarsons. Far too many beers available. I'm sure if they reduced their range the quality would improve. Cask Marque????? my arse! The food is excellent and the pub is fairly clean.

Just re-fitted and now non-smoking throughout. The choice of nine real ales is superb and the food good value.A must if you are in or visiting Sleaford
