please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Very disapointing considering the many reviews we had read.
Firstly, having secured a table in the restaurant we had to pay for our drinks at the bar in advance and were not trusted to add them to the bill.
Despite boasts of seasonal produce and a specials board neither were in evidence. The menu for the month was presented on a laminated sheet of paper, the only hint of variation being the 'pie of the day'. Three attempts eventually identified the main ingredient of said pie as beef. The remainder of the 'imaginative menu' (their words, not mine) was straight from the early eighties.
Lost for inspiration I ordered the pie and was duly presented with the ultimate cullinary sin, a frozen puff pastry slice on top of a stew. The pastry had shared no relationship with the contents of the 'pie' during the cooking process and was not even cooked through properly. We didn't stop for puds.
Shame, this used to be a pub of legend to which people would gleefully travel from afar and happily queue to be fed.

What a sensational place! We were touring in the county and happened across this real gem of a place. Fantastic food well priced, amazing staff and wonderful atmosphere. If the people who run this place could bottle their ability, the would be able to see the magic formula to many, many other pubs that I know....

One of the best carveries that I have come across four excellent joints of different meats plus an enormous selection of well cooked vegetables. We had booked a table on Sunday for 8, but unfortunately due to 3 staff being off sick there was quite a delay in getting seated. Not really the pubs fault, and it was impressive that the staff retained their cheerfulness even though they were running around like.... The Badger was as reliable as ever.

The wife and I popped in at lunch time today (Sunday) was welcomed at the door, we had not booked a table but nevertheless we were shown to a table with no fuss whatsoever. The waitressess were attentive the carvery excellent and the wine reasonably priced. It is worth the drive to this isolated part of Dorset.

It is extremely hard for me to find fault with this truly excellent pub. I recently had cause to stay in the area for work and was delighted when I first walked in. The staff were incredibly friendly, the accommodation was comfortable and extremely well maintained and the ambience in the evenings was perfect.
The only complaint about the food was that there was too much of it! And the bar area is a lively mixture of happy locals and other residents. It is a real hidden gem. I wish I had a pub like this near where I live. I will definitely be paying a return visit for a more leisurely break in the near future.

Wonderful ! We booked a table and accommodation for 8 this weekend...the staff were very helpful, the rooms spacious ,warm and clean (deluxe rooms, that is)The beer was well received with Badger bitter and Tanglefoot being sampled. The restaurant was clean and the carvery superb (visit as many times as you like)The starters and desserts were varied and good value.
Breakfast was very good too.....strongly recommended...we'll be back next year !!

This pub is worth travelling to. The staff were good enough to arrange a table for 12 at short notice on a busy Sunday lunchtime for us to celebrate a birthday.

The Sunday carvery is the best of its kind in Dorset and affordable on a 2 course option with a superb range of desserts (no need for the 3 course option, no room!)

Badger Beers from H&W exactly what you'd expect. Really good pub experience all round at the Fox.

visited this weekend......disappointed too I'm afraid. It seems to be still trading on its reputation of some years ago.
I'd guess the management/cheffing staff have all changed.
Slow food service from the kitchen, poor quality ingredients both meat and veg - tough rump steak, low quality venison cut, bad cauliflower florets.
Hall & Woodhouse beers.......

Has improved a lot in recent months. Nice atmosphere and a lot more locals hanging out there.

Stayed last week at this pub having last been here 3 years ago. It has very recently been refurbished and WOW what a difference.
Rooms are gorgeous, food is superb and all in all its a real gem of a place. I was married 2 years ago and this was just the kind of place I looked all over for to celebrate the day. Not overly fussy or pretentious, but good quality and tucked away in the countryside with loads of room.
Very definitely my kind of place.

I was incredibly disappointed with the Fox. It had such a great reputation, and it is in a beautiful spot, so we actually travelled to go there. But when I visited it the woman in charge - maybe the landlady - was surly and inattentive. The food was OK but not brilliant, and the atmosphere was funereal. The place was almost empty on a Thursday evening, which has to be unusual especially since it is the only pub in the village. Where do all the locals drink? I don't blame them for not supporting such a charmless place.

Brilliant! Food is the best I have tasted in any pub in the UK, the beer not too bad at all and the staff and service first rate! Be aware: you have to book early here to even get a table to eat. The bar is full of friendly locals more than happy for a chat! Would be in the top places to go in the UK!!!!!
