This pub is becoming more and more popular but the landlord seems to have got a little lost. They have a small but reasonable selection of beers, sadly none of the lines have seen line cleaner in some time. The quality of beer and lager is not good and needs to be addressed. I witnessed two barrel changes over one particular evening and both times the new barrell of ale was hooked up and not even water was flushed through the lines.
Friends of mine also turned up to eat one weekend recently to be told they had no staff to wait on them so they couldn't order any food!!!

We have been to this pub to eat a couple of times. On the last occasion it was for Valentine's night. We saw that it was a fixed menu but liked the look of it and booked. On arrival, both chefs were outside smoking-not a good advertisement!
The welcome was nice & friendly. We were shown to our seats & although there were 2 open fires burning, it was very draughty although I don't think it would have mattered where we sat unless it was in front of the fire & then we'd be too hot!
We both chose the salmon & crab cakes with chilli to start-very small cakes & lacked in flavour but served piping hot.
For the main we had fillet steak with langoustine tails, hand cut chips & tomatoes-the steak was so small, a mere sliver on top of chips with a few cherry tomatoes. It tasted very nice but there was not enough of it. People arriving later were served much larger portions. Another couple also complained about portion sizes.
Dessert-Toffee apple pie with vanilla pod ice cream & chocolate cup with clotted cream. The toffee apple pie was basically an apple crumble inside a shortcrust pastry case. The chocolate cup was a tea cup with a tiny portion of chocolate inside & it did not look like clotted cream.
All in all it was very poor value for money. We did tell the landlord that we were unhappy with the portion size but he just shrugged it off with a sorry. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip.
Perhaps being a bit nit picky is the speed of the courses-no time between courses, so much so that we were there an hour and a half tops.
I think that they were economising with portion size should they be packed to capacity-tables were reserved but remained empty. We won't be returning for a third time.

Popped in here a few months ago as it was under new management. Not really a pub for socialising as the bar is so tiny and beer is not good. Menu looked a bit pricey, but tried it out non the less. Food was not up to scratch by any means, rack of lamb was grey and the game pie was just full of whole carrots and gravy, after some searching in the far too rich gravy I did spy a couple of bits of venison. Apparently it was only the second day of serving food, still serving smash is no excuse! Would like to think they will improve standards on the food so it can be tested again.

Food very good but rather pricey. It's a pity the pub side of things isn't bigger, theres a tiny little bar, which appears to be for locals.(no-one else could fit in there. The main part of the pub it is designated to food but the decor is charming as it is very old. Beware that what is on the menu is all you get. There are no extra veg. Saying that, the food is always good.

Popular pub, rather dated decor [fake flintlocks on wall type thing], very overcrowded tiny bar area, main area devoted to eaters. Some strange restaurant policy, where fish & chips, means literally a bit of fish and some chips, or pie and mash means just that eg no veg or garnish, but the Italain dishes are very good.
