Visited about 5.30 on a Friday, pub virtually empty. The people running it present it very well. Lots of beautiful hanging baskets and tubs of flowers everywhere. Very clean and smart inside. Outside seating in a pleasant garden which has chickens and rabbits. Beer really good. Not sure what it is like for food as not eaten, nor visited in the evening, so unsure what the atmosphere is like then.

Went to this pub on our way back from Trebah Gardens while on holiday in Cornwall. It has a pretty exterior which is what attracted us in. As it was about 4 p.m. on a weekday there were not many people in the pub, so we decided to drink in the garden out the back. There is a chicken coop with four very friendly chickens, who, as soon as they saw us came running over to join us. Got a couple of great pictures with me and a chicken sat next to each other the table. Unfortunately it was the only bird I pulled in Cornwall! Nice pint of H.S.D. though!

Stopped here back in the summer for an evening drink as it looked pretty from the outside. Quite a large place but the bar is smallish. From what we saw the food looked good and the landlady was keen to tell us all about it. Somehow got involved with a local's quiz night which was a good laugh. Typical St Austell ales available

Nice friendly pub with good drinks service. However, the wine (by the glass) prices are far too high. Have not tried the food yet but a recent visit to celebrate a friend's 50th (outside caterer who set up a nice hog's roast) went down well and they catered for everyone. Excellent and very easy parking which is a bonus.

Have to totallly agree with the last 2 comments. yes the beer is good, and has the hard to find HSD. But the food...pricey is not the word.

Going back to sam0171's comment about have you seen what you get for your 10.50 (Lasagne). Well couldn't really see it at all. Has gone down to 9.50 but the portion is so small that it would not be enough for an 8 year old child. All of the portions were stingy and it really was not that good.

The cooment by boundsgreenboy rings true. Do you work there sam0171, or are you in fact the propietor/chef who if you check on their website just happens to be a Samantha!!

Leave you to your own conclusions.

To sum up, beer good, but food .....Pah!! Avoid.

Yikes, went back in view of it being awarded "Cornwall Dining Pub of the Year". Wish I hadn't, the food was dreadful this time round - cold veg with the main and cold bread and butter pudding for afters!!! Revolting!

Thought the food was average and quite expensive, good drinks though. Concur with stelladrinker's comments about the service. They had a nice log fire on the go when I was there in January mind!

I think it has been taken over by new people and because of this it has improved greatly. Where the pool table once was, there is now a nice relaxing seating area with candle-lit tables. The pool table has been relegated to the rear of the pub. I have heard the food is quite good, but I have yet to try it. The only downside is it is lacking a nice log fire and a couple of armchairs.

Went for Sunday lunch. The meal was nice, but the whole place was lacking in atmosphere. I almost had t struggle to keep awake! The publican did not seem to be at all enthusastic, almost like we were putting him out serving us a drink!
