Over 5 years since our last visit, our final stop in Leicester on Sunday evening was the Kings Head. It remains pretty much unchanged from our last visit. There are entrances at either end of the pub. On this visit, the ale range was Black Country Ales BFG, Fireside, Pig On The Wall & Plum Pig, Quantock Ralehead, Leatherbritches Bad Boy, Springhead Drop O' The Black Stuff, Bluestone Hammer Stone & Frothblowers Gollop With Zest. Ciders were Gwynt y Ddraig Farmer's Pride & Pulp Mango & Lime. Still a reliable place and the best in this area, now that Broood has closed.

Best pub on new walk now. Never tasted ale in better condition. (Rivals The Plough in Nottingham). Good range of beer styles within the 9 or 10 handpumps. Cosy setting, friendly landlord, nice prices (£2.80-£3.00 for ale). 2 real ciders on and 2 Craft kegs. Beowolf Folded Cross was a quashing best bitter and was amazing; The Old Worthy 'Half 'n' half was fruity and delightful. Would have stayed here all evening but had a Leicester reunion pub crawl to continues with...should have stayed here..)

A welcoming place, if a little stereotypical of 90's style trad pubs. think the carpet may have been left over from various Green Thing refits!
That said, the real fire and a decent selection of ales, all in good nick, were complemented by a friendly. if slightly brummified welcome from the short, tattooed barman (Matt, I think, was his name).
Good to also see real cider available too! Didn't try the BCA stuff, as it tends to be a tad bland, but a couple of the guests, notably Full Mash and Birds, were very palatable!

Second visit here and found a good selection of 7 ales, 2 ciders and 2 craft kegs.
Real ales ranged from 4.2% - 5.0% with prices from £2.80 - £3.00.
Tried the Black Country - Pig on the Wall, a chestnut brown mild, £2.80 and tasted good.

This place is now called the King's Head. It's a Black Country Ales pub with a good range of ales - Black Country Fireside Bitter, BFG & Pig on the Wall, Sadlers Grorty's Delight, Cotleigh Golden Seahawk, Banks & Taylor Fruit Bat & Goffs Summer Knight. There were also 3 real ciders - Sandford Orchards Devon Red & Fanny's Bramble & Cornish Orchards Farmhouse. The pub itself is fairly small and is on two different levels. It's narrow. So once the tables are taken, people seem to spill out into the courtyard that backs onto New Walk. Busy on a match day. The barman or landlord seemed very put off that we ordered 10 halves. We often like to try as many different kinds of ale as possible, as we're not in the business of drinking pint after pint simply to get drunk. So maybe the owners of the King's Arms prefer the heavy lager drinkers instead. Nevertheless, a good pub worthy of a visit if in Leicester.

Good friendly service and six ales (or more?) on display. Comfortable and tidy, but a little bland perhaps. Probably best suited for a relaxed Sunday afternoon session. But speaking of sessions, offering a pale ale at around 4.0% or under would be welcome. Nice to see BCA ales outside of the West Midlands. Nicely varied, and unobtrusive, piped music tootling away in the background. Looks like one to watch.

Now reopened after being bought by Black Country Ales and refurbished. Three BCA beers on plus about five guests. Hugh fireplace with log fire. Very comfortable pub selling proper ale with a very friendly landlord and landlady. It'll be giving the other real ales pubs in town a run for their money. All good for the real ale consumer !
