Great pub with good beer and food.
Live music on Tuesday evenings and on Tuesday, 10th February 2015 there will be something rather special and different with Pond Life 'Classic Punk Riding on a New Wave'. While not too loud, this will not be an evening for sitting in corner pontification over your pint. It will be there to get up and join in. Certainly a night to remember. Visited for lunch recently, decent pub grub and a good range of beer that was in tasty condition.
Also visited on a Tuesday evening for the live band. Again, good beer and a good band, with reasonable volume as well. I like this pub.

I visited this pub on Saturday night 1st December, the pub was packed and there was only two girls serving, I gave up and walked out after waiting 15 minutes to be served. I saw at least one other customer give up and leave while I was waiting.

Although the company i had went a great deal to making this a lovely evening, the George, I have to say, does a lot of things right. Good selection of ales- about 6, of the Fuddle di and the Ringwood that I sampled, I can say they were well-kept. The environment is cosy, but not cramped, and an ample bar at both side and rear even allowed sufficient space for the band to play- most pleasantly of all, the volume of the live band was kept at such a level that we could easily have a conversation- a most thoughtful landlord. Good views too if it were not for the rain. A GOOD pub.

Great 'local's' Georgian coaching inn at the top of Portsdown Hill overlooking the city and Solent beyond. Small beer garden out the front where you can take in the view and watch the motorcycle crowd try to kill themselves on the B2177. It's warm and friendly inside and the pub dog seems to rule. Great beer and a good food menu, open all day, well worth a visit, Fridays and Saturdays it's crowded with the 'locals' doing their thing. Recent lick of paint has kept it an 'unspoiled' pub. 8 real ales, if a little on the pricey side it's worth paying the extra as you certainly wouldn't want to venture into Cosham. friendly knowledgeable staff, clean toilets. just outside Pompey this is well worth a visit. This pub was my local up until 1984, so I was keen to visit when I returned to Portsmouth. The place was clean and bright, the service was good and the staff very amiable. Good beer too. I was delighted.

Totally brilliant local pub. Georgian coaching inn. Friendly, good atmosphere, friendly pub dog, great beer and now with food menu, newly open all day, well worth a visit, been there many times in the past, never disappoints. gets crowded Fridays and Saturdays with people enjoying being sociable.

Good, proper unspoiled pub at the top of Portsdown Hill overlooking the city. 8 real ales, served well, friendly staff, clean toilets.
