Looks like it has had some painting done to the outside.
Inside could be nice but unfortunately I would assume they have not a cleaner.
Decidedly grubby in all directions.
if you like a little bit of underlying hostility chucked in with your expensive pint then you will have come to the right place.
The landlord Keith is not the most affable of characters. More of a 70's rocker want to be but without any talent.
No food was being served on the visit, although it was clearly advertised on the board outside. No real ale on offer despite three naked hand pumps.
All in all a surprise that this is a Fuller Smith & Turner pub.
I won't be back.

But apart from that Keith, do you recommend the place?

Run by a skint couple called Keith and Andy , Keith is a disgusting vile , vulgar rude individual , writes bouncy checks to his suppliers. A friend of mine repaired his car , replaced wheel bearings, track rod end and replaced two tyres and charged him 202.00 on a Renault scenic, he gave him a false cheque then refused to pay him saying he was being overcharged!!! , he eventually paid in drips and drabs. He is notorious for not paying his staff, runs up large wage bills over months then offers them 10 or 20 ponds here and there.
Total idiot. Ruined this pub, lost all the local clientele from his rude attitude and filthy demise. Andy is ok but stays hidden in the kitchen so you never see him.
A pensioner should not be running a pub in his state, dirty old man leering at any women that dare venture in. Always drunk and always smells of urine.
Beer id disgusting, lines cleaned only now and then, bar filthy. Kitchen worse. Ask the bloke from bon appetite in Pangbourne what the kitchen here is like. So dirty he refused to continue supplying his products

Seemed like a nice pub and we liked the beer but Sunday Lunch service was not great, some of our party had to wait a while and one dish was only warm. Staff were helpful, aplogetic about the delay so maybe we were just unlucky. Would go again.

QH is a great pub. The present owners have turned it into a real local that has become the centre of the community. The food is not cheap but is excellent and they have retained the bar area for drinking, avoiding the common problem of isolating those who only want a drink.
Staff are always polite and friendly although they are sometimes rushed when swamped on evenings when people haven't booked.
We are also fortunate in being able to walk here and will continue do so!

We love the Queens Head! Couldn't disagree more with comments 2 below. This pub has come on a treat in last year (we never came in before as it always seemed to be closed) and it is so great to see a village pub thriving in hard times. There is always a great atmosphere in here and the food is amazing - so much to choose from and never a disappointment! The staff are always friendly, polite and attentive. When we meet up with friends they always want to go to our local - great for us as we can walk home! We love coming to share a Fish Platter on a Friday Night. Sunday lunch has to be one of the best around the area, but we have been turned away when we didn't book as it was busy. We will continue to enjoy all this place has to offer!

Wow - seems like I went to a different place to the reviewer below! I met up with my friends here on Good Friday - pub was busy with plenty of drinkers and diners and had a great atmosphere. We were put on a lovely round table for 8 of us which meant we could all have a good chat together.

Lots of choice on the menu that all sounded lovely, I finally settled on the pigeon breast, black pudding and bacon starter and skate wing with creamy leeks and crab and prawns for main. Pigeon was wonderfully cooked, and got two massive breasts and plenty of black pudding and bacon with it too. The skate was also delicious, perfectly cooked again and the creamy leeks really complemented the delicate fish. Everyone in the party really enjoyed their food, some of the other dishes we had were roast duck leg, poached salmon salad, homemade fillet burger, rib-eye steak and a massive bowl of mussels which looked great!

There were some amazing looking puddings too but unfortunately I had no room for any more! The sneaky spoonful of homemade crumble I had though was very tasty. I will definitely be back here, service was attentive and food just amazing, no wonder they have won an award from Fullers!

Made the mistake of trying the Sunday lunch at 12.50. Cold plates, some cold veg, just about warm and cardboardy Yorkshires and, to top it all, no crispy crackling .... no crunch at all despite it being adverted on the menu. Just soggy pork fat. Couple this with a front of house who insisted on asking for feedback but then didn't listen, became incredibly defensive and offered up bizare excuses like 'that soggy fat is your cracking sir'! We couldn't wait to leave. Very disappointing and yet another business that has forgotton that the customer matters. For those in the mood for a roast, a Toby's is as good for half the price!

Have been a couple of times since the pub changed hands and have been impressed with the change.

Very friendly staff and great food. Slightly pricy for the area but very good quality. Bar food is of a higher than usual quality too.

I believe they do tea and cakes in the afternoon.

New owners since I believe late 2007.
Good attentive service and food albeit at the upper middle end of the price scale.
Drink prices about mid priced for West Berks.

How strange? I read the last review and just couldn't disagree more. I've always found the landlord and landlady in the Queens Head to be really friendly and always felt so welcome. The food is excellent - you've just gotta have a Sunday lunch here - it's incredible and great value.

Wow, how so much can change! Great Bar staff? (one is) Good service? certainly not anymore. Fab Food? most definitley not. Reasonably priced? 3.30 per pint - lager! Need i go on?
This used to be such a popular village pub, now very few locals use it. Very unwelcoming, and the 'happy hour' gimmicks to pull in the punters will not work in this area where there are so many other good pubs to choose from. Such a genuine shame.

The bar staff are a treat! Good service, fab food!! reasonably priced too, well the food was, the drinks were a little higher but not excessive. Will come back here for the summer as the garden looks good for the kids to play in.

Just to also mention the lovely old style fire. keep s the whole pub warm
