user reviews of Ash Tree, Ashford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I went in the ol' Ash Tree last night (Friday) it was heaving. I've never seen it so busy (...maybe that little bit of sunshine in the afternoon helped bring people out...!) They must be doing something right there, to be soo busy. The Thai restaurant attached always looks empty when I walk passed...(that's passed with an 'a' not an 'i'...!) The pub could be a LOT bigger (and maybe better) if they got rid of that restaurant that no-one seems to use. That's just my humble opinion. The bar staff always seem good when I go to the Ash Tree, quick off the mark, and fairly friendly. I'll up my rating to 5/10 TJ

Open plan Fullers pub, carpeted with modern furnishings. The Thai restaurant is still attached. But there didn't appear to be anybody there. Pride & ESB were the 2 real ales on offer. The locals and staff seemed fairly friendly. Better than I was expecting.

This used to be my local and was affectionatley known as the hash tree for obvious reasons, not that I participated in that kind of thing. I used it as they did the place up and always sold a superb pint of London Pride; I was weaned on the stuff.

A refurbishment turned the pool room into a Thai restaurant; not good, it was always empty.

I went back in recently after several years away, I probably won't make the effort again

Used to be affectionately known as the "Ash Tray"...!! but gladly they've tidied up and the pub is much better now. Efficient staff. 'Pride' and Carling on tap. Ok for live footy. Not that we're going to be watching much English footy this summer tho'...! ! ! (Bring back Sven...)!! TJ

My local and best pub in the area. Can get smokey but a little tip, get a spot by the bar as smoking isn't allowed at the bar and it does make a difference.

Good for football with plenty of screens. Juke bx now gone with one of those behind the bar automatic things now. Beer is invariably excellent (well The London Pride is!!) All the staff are very friendly, as are the locals in my experience.

Occasionally has live music which are pretty good nights to.

Overall a bit of a locals pub but you won't get beaten up if you are new to it. Honest!!!!!!

Not a bad Fuller's pub in a modern (read ugly) light building with a limited range (Pride, ESB and Chiswick) which were served very well. Landlord said that most seasonals don't sell here. But does he try to promote them?

Yet again some basic faults: TV/jukebox death match, shabby interior getting needing a lick of paint, toilets smelling of stale piss (and for people who say that this is normal, go to the Kings Fairway which is TWICE as busy yet avoids all of the above).

Other features include a pool table and Thai kitchen.

I would certainly recommend it for the quality of the beer, but this place could and should do better as a whole.

Popped into the 'Ash Tree' the other evening in passing, as needs must, for a quick half. I was surprised to hear the pub does NOT have a no-smoking area... so I couldn't stay long, it was too smokey. For that reason rating only 3/10 I'm afraid. Perhaps they should open the adjoining 'Thai Restaurant' up as a no-smoking bar area, it was totally empty at 8pm...!! TJ

I've been using the Ash Tree for about 13 years now and what evamatt says about not employing foreign staff is far from the truth. In fact, over the years, I've seen more foreign staff than English staff. We've had staff from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Japan, Lithuania, Poland and Ireland - and that's just the ones I can remember.

As far as the pub's concerned, I think Fullers messed it up in the refurb (a few years back) and if I ever meet the architect I'll tell him that. Still, what's done is done - the ales are almost always in good condition and served at the right temperature and it's the only decent pub in walking distance of where I live.

Best pub in Ashford, wide range of very well kept beers. Locals very friendly, bar staff very competent. Gets a little packed and smokey when there's a big football game on, but what pub doesn't ?

Not as bad as it might look! Often have a big screen up showing the footy, so that can put some folk off!
Can be a tad too smokey some evenings. But possibly the best pub the locals have in that area. A lot of airport workers use the Ash Tree.
Personally, I prefer the 'Kings Fairway' about a mile away, going towards Staines. That IS the BEST pub in Ashford by far. TJ

I agree it doesn't look very inviting from the outside, but I think this is the best pub around here. The staff and locals are very friendly. They always welcome new faces, unlike some pubs! i.e. Black Dog.
