Gildredge, Eastbourneback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I've been avoiding this pub (due to the shirtless / vest / football top wearing types drinking out front) for many years now, when coming to Eastbourne for my hols. Finally I decided to give it a go the other lunchtime. I am suprised the place did not seem as bad as I'd thought although I did visit during a quieter period. Real ales on offer were Harveys Best, and quite suprising to see Hopback Summer Lightning in the area. The Harveys was fine. In addition to pool table etc I noticed they have a bar billiards table. I'm giving this place a moderate thumbs up, probably best avoided Fri nights or whenever there's footie on though.

Best bet......stay away

This is the closest pub to the train station and it shows by the clientele. It has a pool table, dart board and Sky Sports.
The barmaid was friendly serving up Sussex Best and standard lagers. There were a few people eating the cheap pub grub, but they seemed to be of the older generation.
The outside seating is on a very busy junction and I don’t think that I’ll bother with here again as there is better around.

Seems to attract quite a transient crowd, not surprising as there is little to detain anybody here for very long. Uninspiring.

This pub has a nice atmosphere and the food is cheaper than Weatherspoons and much nicer.

Oh, there were many a fun night in here when Steve was the landlord. Quiz nights, laughing so hard I nearly peed as Steve read out my filthy answers to the questions I didn't know. Well priced, quite appetising food. A good selection of booze generally, an It box, a jukebox and a pool table. A few undesirables hang around the pool table on occasion, but otherwise an eclectic mix of people from old men reading the paper to Oxfam-raiding students. A good place to start the pub crawl, just head towards the sea. If you're still standing when you get there, please don't go near the water.....
