loadsa stuff in the local rags about whats happening to this place , rumour is now 3 retail units and 4 residential , loada stuff about the logicstical nightmare of building or renovating this building , the feeling amongst the locals is that it should be kept as a pub as there has been a pub here for years .
romfordir - 17 Feb 2007 15:40
the mosque rumour was doing the rounds just before it closed , walked out of the hogs last night and all the windows are now boarded up , they could never keep the chavs out of llyods lol
romfordir - 14 Dec 2006 09:48
It was bought by the chain that owns Pizza Express, Zizzis and ASK, seeing as there is already a Zizzis in Hornchurch my guess is it will become one of the other two....
jonlikesabeer - 12 Dec 2006 14:12
I have heard that Lloyds is going to become a Mosque. Is this true does anyone know? I heard this from a chap in the Fatlin and Firkin
realaleman - 3 Dec 2006 02:08
shame it closed though , and i agree with david14 the fatlin just isnt the same since its been refurbed , rip llyods

I've been in this place and apart from the slow service, it was good compared to the usual Lloyds and had a lower chav count certainly. In response to David14, Wetherspoons have totally lost their way - their one priority seems to be make as much money as possible and if they can do that by selling the site, to hell with the punters. They gave up actually caring about their customers several years ago.
Get_me_some_Old_Tom - 10 Oct 2006 14:15
romfordir is right - it's shut suddenly and without warning. How can Wetherspoons fail to run such a gem properly??

I can't see how it can become housing - it's in the middle of the road, and haters included - it's a nice looking building and focus of the town centre - i'm sure they won't let it be knocked down.

Anyhow if the planning application pops through my door i'll be sure to object. I had to go to the Firkin on Friday and it just wasn't the same :-(

David14 - 27 Sep 2006 16:44
SHUT DOWN
anonymous - 13 Sep 2006 11:43
as from friday this will no longer be a pub , was told yesterday when was in there it has been sold to developers to be turned into housing , there has been a pub here for the whole of my 25 years on this planet , i had my first legal drink here when it was the newt , i know it aint the best pub in hornchurch but who wants to see a icon of hornchurch knocked down ?
also it has the newt n cucumber signage back up , as the llyods sign fell down revealing the old sign
RIP llyods no 1/ newt n cucumber/ madison exchange / white hart or whatever name you know it as

Grotty pub with absolutely no character at all, makes you feel dirty just walking through the door. Cheap beer is about all it has going for it but this obviously contributes to the sort of people that go in there.
Oskins - 29 Aug 2006 13:47
well i will say that the staff have certainally settled down and now glyns back things might start to look up , went in 3 days ago during the day and the floor around the bar was sticky , but the beer was good n cheap and no chavs about
romfordir - 9 Jul 2006 15:09
I stand by my last post in that this place is bad, chavvy and plenty of sniffing going on in the toilets. For anyone with self estime and street cred, this is NOT the place to be seen.
MrWhiskey - 9 Apr 2006 20:40
What a terrible excuse for a "pub". Considering this place has only been open a couple of years, it looks like it was last decorated 50 years ago. This is a good example of Wetherspoons saving money? The policy may be "Over 21s", but I can assure you that nothing has changed. The people coming out of the toilets sniffing and having running noses are just the older population of Hornchurch. The Door Staff are also rather brutal in their behaviour, and the staff are so slow, I could have brewed the beer quicker. The Manager looks like a weak fragile thing. I feel sorry for him being stuck in a hell hole like this.
realaleman - 4 Apr 2006 10:44
i really dislike this pub, and cant really understand why its always so busy, its not very nice inside, and the people who attend on the whole arent the sort of people i would like to be in a confined space with.

and the lame attempt at a beer garden is laughable.... who wants to sit in the middle of a busy main road roundabout breathing in car fumes!
essjaydee - 12 Mar 2006 20:22
Well alot has changed since i was last here and thats not a bad thing either. Putting the age limit up to over 21's has given the pub a more mature relaxed atmosphere and gives you a break from the young (can't handle my drink) youths of Hornchurch. Nice pub and getting better as well!

Oh and a reply to *anonymous*, its clear your one of the under 21's upset by not being let in your cheap little boozer. Firstly learn how to spell, secondly (after the spelling lessons) remember to use the right word 'Crawl' and 'Cruel' have a very different meaning and finally have fun down JJ's!!

Lloyds NO.1 Hornchurch, and being honest its No1
for a reason. I must say when invited out to this pub earlier in the week I had my doubts, after reading the reviews on here I truly believed that this pub was going to be a real dive. Yet after failing to get served in some of these 'better' pubs in Hornchurch I swallowed my pride and decided to embrace Lloyds No.1. Much to my amazement i was greeted by friendly and efficient service and had myself a decent pint at the same time. The pub had a nice atmosphere and I failed to see a 'chav' or 'coke head' around, although from a distance I'm sure one could mistake the chirpy old guys in the corner to be smoking cannabis as they ponder over their paper with a roll up in mouth. After giving this pub a fair chance I failed to see how it had such a low rating upon this site, maybe the old Lloyds is as it states below, but now the new Over 21's version is a pub I would recommend.

Its clear that things are on the up at this pub. Congrats to the company for taking this action and maybe they can continue this at some of their other venues. Anonymous must have been barred from this pub as it is not as he describes........
newbeer - 17 Feb 2006 21:29
chav scum, coke heads, dont barge into anyone while tryin to walk through, youl just get looked at funny or hit! and yea definately nasty smell as wel as the people, never felt comfortable in there! and staff are crap! low prices - yea but you see the people it attracts!!!
Terrance - 18 Oct 2005 18:22
Not a very nice place. There is a nasty smell that eminates from the walls, and the place is generally unkempt. It is the type of place you expect to see sawdust and spitoons on the floor. When you see the customers you will realise why. Smoking cannabis in the beer garden appears to be the norm and quite a few people drink in there appear always to have heavy colds and eyes like saucers.
MrWhiskey - 29 Sep 2005 17:56
good food, music is ok but they should not play the same songs over and over. the staff aint the best, they are all nnew, and havent got a clue wot they are doing. come on guys pick up the act!
anonymous - 9 Aug 2005 14:04
Terrible place. Full of drug dealers, chavs and Essex Boys. The place to go if you want a glass in your face. Staff and management do not know what they are doing.
anonymous - 24 May 2005 20:00
Good food, and well priced drinks. They need to emplpoy more people at the weekend though so customers don't have to wait for about half an hour before they are served.
