Without doubt the most revolting burger & chips I've ever been served. Advertised as a Homemade Burger. Nothing homemade about it and nothing burgerish about it. Cheap processed nastiness. Enough said !

I have often driven past this picturesque pub and wanted to pop in for lunch and a drink. Yesterday I was walking my dog with a friend and as we walked passed could see families dinning and having a nice time, so we walked in, looking forward to a nice lunch. I was pleased to see 3 dogs by the door when I walked in as I thought I'd be fine with my small Pug, as this was a dog friendly pub. Seconds later 2 of the dogs (black labrador and golden retriever I think) launched themselves at us, barking loudly and trying to get to my dog. I picked her up and as she was in my arms, one of the dogs bit my hand. Shocked and shaken, I could see teeth marks in my hand from one of the dogs, my friend asked for a cloth to clean my hand, but as the skin wasn't broken much then I wanted to get the hell out of there. the families around us and the landlord knew I had been bitten and could see how shaken we were, but no one said a word. Now I don't blame the pub for this attack, but I'm shocked that neither the dog owner or the landlord apologised or checked if I was ok. If those dogs are capable of such unprovoked attacked then they should be on a lead!! 24 hours later and my hand is still bruised and very swollen. The people in this pub do not care about customers, their safety or deal with a terrible situation. To risky to walk in the door of this pub. I will never go back.

What a nice pub, And what a warm welcome i got from the landlord (I think it was the landlord (The older fatter bloke with grey thinning hair? I think he was called Chris)). The Harveys was tasty and i had the game and bacon pie out in the lovely huge beer garden.
The food is good and the beer was the cheapest within Steyning and Upper Beeding.
Next time i'm down that end of the woods i will pay them another visit!

The pub is in a Grade II listed building and dates back to at least 1788, although the current 18th/19th century exterior encloses a much older, possibly 15th century, building. The interior is very traditional - lots of beams and some low doorways; there's a large car park to the side and an even larger beer garden behind, with an exterior covered dining area.

Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter was on tap, and reasonably kept; the other pump had Fuller's London Pride, but this wasn't available on our visit. The young barman was friendly and efficient. There's an extensive menu with several vegetarian options, but we didn't eat here.

the only real blot on my crawl, lovely looking pub the beer wasnt great but the staff were fine apart from i presume the the landlord who seemed intent on ruining the barmaids night by shouting at them(made you want to be somewhere else) great garden though probably the best place to be if you dont want to hear the landlords voice or have him stare at you for talking to loudly. all in all a bit of a mixed opinion maybe its better for food(but i doubt i will be going back to find out)
