Redecorated a few years back, the bar is now smaller with a less impressive selection of beers but an astonishingly good jukebox is a plus as is the warming red colour scheme and the quietness of a non-Upper Street location. That said, making a juke box free can create issues to do with hogging although a DJ belied the usually unwelcome reputation of such personages with a cracking set comprising The Fall, Veruca Salt and Sonic Youth.

Had a nice time here the other night. Good beers, friendly crowd.

My only complaint would be that the famous juke box was not loud enough. Plus, some of the buttons are missing so if you're trying to select your favourite Led Zep, AC/DC or Iggy & The Stooges song you're in danger of hurting your fingers on the machinery.

got to agree with the other comments - one of the best pubs around.

if i still lived in the area, i would go every night

This is one of my favourite pubs in the world. I moved to Islington about a year ago with great plans to explore all the local pubs and then stumbled accross the MP (I like to abreviate it now) and felt no need to find anywhere else.

The bar staff are wonderful, always up for a chat during the week and calm and friendly if a little harrased on busy days. The music is great, there's a pool table and darts board. The odd spontaneous game of killer pool that breaks out is always entertaining. The customers are friendly, the type of place where you chat to people you don't know rather than view them with suspicion.

It's not fancy, but if you want a fancy wine bar with gleaming bars and attentive staff being fakely polite serving you, there are plenty of bland generic places on Upper Street.

Atmosphere, music and the staff = awesome. It used to be my local before I moved out of Islington and I recommend this place to everyone with taste for music and friendly atmosphere. My experience with the staff was always to my full satisfaction because I love the unofficial manners and humour, which was always the case of Mucky. That's why I've decided to share my opinions, because of some of the previous reviews might mislead people that had never been in.

First an objective person that is qualified to judge other's behaviour, including quite aggressive wouldn't make an effort to complain about getting what he or she wanted.

Second - complaining about a bar person who kept serving despite he needed to go to the loo sounds also like very subjective and twisted point of view. I used to work in bars myself back in the days and I remember how crazy things can go when you're busy people wait for their drinks. Yes the staff is there to serve the customers but if those orders take ages it delays the others to be served faster.

It would therefore make sense if everyone ordered fast especially if the bar is packed as the landlord described later. I mean if a barman needs to go to the toilet (as
suggested in one of the previous reviews) and served the long-waiting customer before doing so does it mean that he ignored the customer or his physical needs at the time? Common people - stop whinging and get over yourselves - Mucky is great and the staff is excellent!
